Waking up to WordPress’s elimination of the Classic editor made a cup of coffee more vital than ever. The machine didn’t disappoint, and the first cup was thrown back like a shot of cheap whiskey. The second cup brought to mind a workaround.
I found that clicking on the notification bell before opening a blank post still gave me the choice of which editor to use. Being sure this situation won’t last long, it is to be enjoyed while still here. This post was done in the Classic editor.
Now that the editor problem is solved, for the time being, the coffee gave me a brain teaser. “Peter Puck and Paul Peck used a pick on a mountain pock and found only a used hockey puck.”
My text notification goes off, and it is Linda Hill. It reads:
Your prompt for #JusJoJan the 18th and Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “pack/peck/pick/pock/puck.” Use one or use ’em all for bonus points—it’s up to you! Enjoy!
Go to Linda’s post to see what others have done with the prompt. Here’s the link. https://lindaghill.com/2025/01/17/the-friday-reminder-for-socs-jusjojan-2025-daily-prompt-for-jan-18th/

“What the heck?”
“What?”
“You didn’t do a security dismantle or time trip.”
“Faced with the editor challenge, I didn’t have time.”
“And that brain teaser?”
“Only thing I could think of.”
“This is going to be a rough day for sure.”
“No kidding. I don’t know anything about the other editor, and I have a tour coming up.”
“Now is the time to teach an old dog new tricks.”
“Easy for you young folks to say.”
“Come on, pops, you can do it.”
“I suppose. Did you call Uber?”
“Man, I’m the one usually bringing up the pub.”
“Well, I’m needy.”
“He’s right over there.”

“Aw, come on.”
“Pack your troubles in an old kit bag.”
“Not helping.”
“We love you a bushel and a peck.”
“A pock on you.”
“Pick yourself up.”
“Puck you.”
“The last one on the van is a weenie.”
“Childhood, here we come.”

Good work on snagging those bonus points, John. Which Voodoo Ranger pairs well with lobster?
Learning to use the Block Editor is a two-shot process, but it has its benefits. I’m not a very good salesman, and WordPress isn’t giving me a commission, so I’ll stop.
I hope you have a great weekend.

I’ll get there. I did manage to produce an HTML post for one of the tour stops in block so there is hope.

That brain teaser of yours is also a tongue twister.

John, to get the classic editor back, Try this link: https://johnwhowell.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post-new.php?classic-editor if it works for you, save it in your browser favourites so you can access it anytime 😃

Thank you, Chris, I noticed today that the choice shows up when first opening WP. I’m going to save yours in case. Yours works

The classic editor is gone? Dang it. I’ve been delaying learning this block text thing for a while. I have to use it if I post by phone and it feels so clunky. What was the reason for going this route?

It is back apparently. I have no idea what WordPress is up to these days

That’s quite the brain teaser, John. Riding in that truck will make you really hungry.

I forced myself to stop using the classic editor awhile ago, John. It wasn’t easy, but I manage. Keeping it as simple as possible is what works for me. No fancy schmancy stuff. Great job on getting those bonus points and I would happily get on the lobster truck if I could snag a couple for home. Happy Saturday!

Dang! I still edit with the classic editor, and I have a friend’s tour post to assemble today.

I think it is still working. Might have been a fluke

I’ve always used the Classic Editor and just tried it. Still works for me. Did WP change something I don’t know about? Puck them! 😂🤣 My husband would roll his eyes and still call me a potty mouth. 🙄

I like the puck curse. The vision of that hard rubber thing flying through the air heading for the target is awesome. Yeah, puck them.

Oh, the WordPress woes. They just keep on coming. Great response to the prompt, John, and I needed two cups of coffee just to get past the brain teaser. 🙂 Love the Uber ride. Hope there are free lobsters 🙂

You never fail to crack me up, John! Well done!
I don’t know of what all o’ y’all speak of with the editor problems/stories… I always create my posts from the admin panel. Click on Posts on the left, avoiding the drop-down that said “add new post” and once you have, the page changes and at the top, where it says: Posts, and the box “add new post” there is an arrow. Click on the arrow and you can choose classic or block.
Hope this helps!

I nearly had a hissy fit over this last weekend when Classic appeared to disappear when they changed the post to view layout.. I found a workaround but thankfully the options were back by Monday.. I will not use Block editor ever… and I do think they realise with millions still using classic it would not be a popular move to stop supporting.. anyway great take on the challenge John… hugsxx

I think the folks at WordPress have lost their way. The so called happiness engineers are a joke and the attempts to move us off Classic diabolical. I pay like you do and expect my Classic to remain forever. I did find a work around too, but we shouldn’t have to do that every time some yahoo decides to make a run to Block editor. With that, I’m going to get another cup of coffee and calm down. 😁

I still use the Classic, I have it bookmarked. I don’t dig the new one . . I didn’t when it was first rolled out and I still don’t. Would I use it? I guess if I had to, sure why now.
As for your pick of a challenge? Perfect . . . just perfect.
And that Uber is a great idea. Hopefully you can catch it on the way back from the pub later on. A couple lobstah rolls to sop up the merriment of the evening would do just fine.

Well done with the challenge, John. I’ve heard other bloggers say the classic editor arbitrarily switched to the loathsome Block editor. So far, knock on wood, I haven’t had that happen. But let me just say for the record if WP eliminates it for good, I’m outa here-I’m not going to pay good money to be aggravated on top of it. In fairness, I’ve tried the Block editor a couple of times back when it first darkened the blog world and tried to like it but wanted to commit a violent crime every time I used it. It’s so onerous and you never know how your post is going to look. At least with Classic, you know what you’re getting and it doesn’t take hours to crank out a post like it does with Block. Count me as a no thank you on Block.

I have you signed up as an activist against Block Editor. I’m with you on the aggravation. My classic is back in it’s old space and I’m mighty happy.

I’ve complained so many times. They always say basically, “thank you for your comment. Deal with it.” They aren’t very sympathetic. Doggone whippersnappers. 😆

I love how the Happiness Engineer starts the inquiry as if it is our fault. I told one one time that I’m not a code writer so how can I alter the code from my blog? He had no answer.,

Ugh, those guys are the worst-if I was a code writer it’s more than likely I wouldn’t be blogging! At least most of my encounters have been sympathetic but they all seem uniform in praising Block like little lemmings. They must have a cheat card with the company line about how fabulous Block is taped to their monitors.
