Thursday – A Little Personal – Twiggy and Tempeste Feel the Heat

“Hey, Tempeste. Does it seem warm in here?”

“Now that you mention it, yes, it does feel warm.”

“I wonder what’s going on?”

“Maybe Dad forgot to turn on the A/C.”

“Hey, Dad. Did you forget the A/C?”

“No, Twiggy. In fact, it isn’t working.”

“How can that be? It’s brand new.”

“I wish I could tell you. I have a call into the company.”

Tempeste, it looks like we are in for some discomfort.”

“Yeah, I heard. How hot is it?”

Hot enough to convince me not to move around too fast.”

“It’s over 80 degrees in here, Tempeste.”

“Thanks, Dad. I think.”

“Over 80F (26.6 C)  degrees? That is not even civilized.”

“I agree. What are we going to do about it?”

“There’s not much we can do, except try to stay cool.”

“How on Earth do we do that in an oven?”

“I am fresh out of ideas.”

“I wonder if Mom can rustle up some ice cubes.”

“I think that would help, but Mom’s at the store.”

“Staying cool, I suppose.”

“I hope so.”

“She should take us with her.”

Isn’t that the way those appliances go? Our heater quit working during the coldest week this winter.

I hope by now you’ve got it fixed and are cool as cucumbers.

Seems the condenser on a brand new install failed. And we have to wait for the part. 😓 Thanks, Deborah

I have a feeling they really don’t care. I got a call yesterday from someone in the office who said they have a process, and it may or may not get here even though the tech said he would be back with the part today. So the process is what is important, not the customer.

Why do things always break right before you really need them? AC, heater, car, sanity, vacuum, oven, and the list keeps going.

I know. It seems endless. They diagnosed the problem as a failed condenser. This unit was installed in October. Go figure.

It is a heat pump, so it was used in the cold weather. Lately, we have had temps in the high 80s, and it seemed to work fine. Then on Tuesday it quit.

Ouch. Our heating system died right before the 20’s started up. Got it fixed right before the first blizzard though. Timing is always either great or horrible.

This is the first week I’ve heard one of my neighbor’s AC units humming. I’ve managed to stave that off for the time being, but summer’s coming. If the wait for your part’s going to be long, do what I did when a unique part for my car was scheduled to arrive in ‘who knows.’ I got online with the part number and found one in Olathe, Kansas. I also discovered that Toyota dealers are limited to looking for parts in the dealership’s specific area; they weren’t allowed to look nationwide.

Did you then inform the dealer?

I sure did. That’s how I found out how their organization structure is arranged. I’d already been visiting the parts department in person on a regular basis, so it was great fun to go in and tell them I had the part. It had beenovernighted, and I had it in my hand.

If I had any way of blowing down some of our wintry temps your way, I would. We just bought a heat pump this fall (more environment friendly, better AC in summer) and of course the day it turned 7 degrees, it stopped working. I will say that the company responded within hours. But I’m afraid of what happens the first hot hot day. Stay cooooool.
