A gorgeous day. The overnight temperatures are in the forties and daytime in the fifties. There will be a warming trend during the week so we should see the seventies on Monday. This shot was taken a little closer to the dune than normal. I simply lost my reference since last week.

I have to feel for all our friends in the East. The snowstorm has undoubtedly caused some hardships, and hopefully, everyone stayed safe and importantly warm over the weekend.

Today’s photo was taken near the same place as normal. The dune has been substantially altered to accommodate the new crossover so it is hard to judge. In the foreground is a mound of sand which is about six feet tall. As you can see, it is a lovely morning, and that person in the background is jogging. Those little mounds beyond the red stick are gopher mounds. The next photo is taken from the furthermost spot from the Gulf.

 

 

Where you see, the white pipe is where the first walkover was located. That red thing on the left is a front loader. The walkover will take a jog to the left and then come back to the original line. This jog was necessary to not disturb the natural dune. The access to the walkover that will be in the foreground will be one of the last items installed so the workers will be able to maneuver their equipment without tearing up the dune. To give you an idea of size the posts are six by six inches and the tallest 24 feet.

As you can see the weather is a little more sane. This shot shows a couple of things. 1. The sun is out and has left a little glare in the camera lens. 2. The walkover is gone and in addition, the left-hand side of the dune has been carved out to make room for the walkway. You can see the tracks of the front loader. That stake in the middle marks the middle of the new walkway. The next photo was taken a couple of days ago showing the walkway gone.

This was before the front loader work on the dune. You can see what a front loader does to a vinyl walkover, though.

You can’t actually see the rain but we have had over an inch since New Year’s day. The daytime temps have been in the 50’s with a twenty-five mile an hour wind. That brought the wind chill down to  38 degrees. For us THAT’S COLD. Since the boardwalk is being torn down I’ll bet you wonder how I got this shot. Notice the little piece of orange ribbon at the bottom of the boardwalk. That is to warn everyone that the boardwalk looks like this:

As you can see the walkway comes to an abrupt end. You can also see how the dune has taken over the walkway. One of the reasons it needed to be replaced (since nothing stops the dune) Now to answer the question on how I got to my normal picture spot?

I walked on the ground where the walkway used to be. That white pipe is what is left of the connections to foot washing stations. I have one more photo which is taken from the beginning of the boardwalk at the furthest point from the beach.

Again the white pipe is a waterline. Although this looks quite far away, in reality, it is only thirty feet or so. After the old walkway is removed the crew will begin building the new which will be quite a work of art.

You can tell some rain is moving in. The waves are beginning to build and the front has produced some clouds. The daytime temps are in the 70’s and it is expected to go in the upper 40’s at night. This will be one of the last photos of this vinyl walkover. As we were walking back yesterday there were some men working on tearing it out. Not sure how we will be able to get to the water since construction of the boardwalk is expected to take at least six weeks. I think we may have to drive around since the dunes are loaded with rattle snakes and I’m sure you’ll agree it would not be good running into them. Next week should be an interesting photo. Yes that is my wife with Bailey the boxer. Lucy is up with me behind the camera.

Here is a photo of the beginning of the work. The wooden posts used to be covered in vinyl. You can see the spot where I normally take the picture way at the end by the Gulf. It is still untouched due to the sand covering the walkway.

A little rainy. A front moved in from California bringing needed rain. The temps are expected to go into the fifties later today.  The wind has caused the wave action to become a little more pronounced. Supposed to be sunny and warmer for the rest of the week. With the sun behind the clouds, the picture is much brighter.

Beautiful Weekend. The weather has changed and the daytime temps are in the 70’s. The sun is messing with my camera so this photo looks like it was taken in the dark. It is about 8:30 am. You can see a couple walking their dog.
