Wednesday has arrived once again. There is only a short time left if you need to get a ton of things done by Friday. The bright side says that Friday is viewable from Wednesday. One only has to cross the wasteland known as Thursday to make the golden appointment with the entryway to the weekend. The Golden Entryway to the weekend. I like the phrase as it describes Friday pretty nicely.
Since this is only Wednesday let’s not spent too much of Wednesday’s time on the merits of Friday. Wednesday has some really good points of its own. (It just occurred to me that I am making these days sound as if they are optional occurrences and I am working as an agent in trying to convince you to select them. Even though these days arrive and we are in no position to reject their arrival, I think it is productive to have some nice things to look forward to as they show up.) So here are some nice things about my old pal Wednesday:
- No one gets fired on Wednesday. A particular pleasure of management is to reserve the surprise of the pink slip to Friday so that it can be fully enjoyed over the weekend.
- When national holidays occur on Wednesday you can elect to tag on two other days in the beginning or after to make the whole thing worth Five days instead of one.
- Bosses day usually falls on a Wednesday and gives you the opportunity to make a number of brownie points that will serve you well for the remainder of the year.
- A number of bars and clubs have drink specials on Wednesday which can be a great excuse to celebrate the middle of the work week.
- Administrative Assistant Day is on a Wednesday
in April of each year and gives you the opportunity to bribe thank your boss’s administrative assistant for all the wonderful and helpful things done for you. - The most DUI arrests take place on a Friday and the least on a Monday. Wednesday is right in the middle so your odds of avoiding a DUI arrest on Wednesday is very good. Your odds are really great if you don’t drink and drive.
- Valentine’s day will not be on a Wednesday until sometime after 2016. This means you are safe on Wednesday if you tend to forget.
Can you think of any other good things for a Wednesday? If so why not share them. Here is hoping you have a good balance of the week

I try to see Wednesday as the gruelling walk to the top of the hill before we run down easily to Friday.

Never realized those benefits of Wednesday. I always looked at it as ‘almost there’ day.

Of course the thing I like best about Wednesday is its proximity to Friday. But at my workplace, we’ve made a bit more special. Every Wednesday a few of us go to a local Chinese restaurant for lunch. It’s one of those little “hole-in-the-wall” restaurants (i.e., no buffet). There’s a core group of us: me, my immediate supervisor and our bureau chief. Other people join us as they can. The three of us always order soup and an eggroll. My bureau chief bring brings veggies and I bring fresh ginger to add to the soup. This all started “organically.” Originally my chief just brought the veggies in case she missed lunch. Then she decided to share and a tradition was born. Sometimes she even brings cookies. I bring the ginger because she didn’t always remember to do that. I’m feeling very sentimental now because in mid-December, my bureau chief will retire and our Wednesday lunches will no longer be the same. We all feel this way since any time she is not with us, we miss her.

What a nice story. Your chief must be special. Wish they all were like yours.

Since I have to work on Saturday this week, Wednesday doesn’t have as much appeal today. But usually I love knowing the week is half over!

One good thing about wednesday was this post. Another is that it is already two days past Monday but even more days past the previous Monday. You can do that forever and it gets better every time.

I love this thought. I am fourteen years past a very bad Monday and now I can’t even remember it. Thanks .

I used to notice that – people usually were fired on Fridays, sigh. Maybe the fire-ers get most of the Friday DWI’s. I still prefer DWI. Who changes these sorts of things? I would have loved that sort of job – changing acronyms to sillier acronyms.

I could never really understand the day. I thought all year should be lived as if your loved one knew it. (I never missed though) Thanks for the comment
