Friday JohnKu – TGIF

Friday is here and with it the joy of the impending weekend. Thank goodness it’s Friday. Woo Woo. This has been a long hard week. My fingers are almost blistered from sitting her pounding this keyboard for a week. I need to unwind and give them a soak. I think I’ll wrap them around a nice cold margarita and see if the swelling goes down. I’ll tell Ya. Some workers think they have it tough, out in the sun digging ditches. Ha. Try pounding out a few thousand words sometimes. It would make those shovelfuls of dirt look like child’s play in comparison. Try thumbing through a thesaurus to find a word just as good as the word you just used only different. Ha. Makes the sun feel like a long-lost friend. Try writing a sentence without the word “that’ in it. Ha. Makes physical work look like rest time. Okay you can see I’m getting carried away. I’m just glad it’s Friday. Today’s JohnKu (as coined by Words4jp) is titled My work. Hope you like it and have a great weekend.

My Work by John W. Howell

My job looks easy,

Sitting at a desk all day. . .

No off switch at night.

Authors weren’t built with off switches, huh? So with you on the thesaurus thing. Do stores still sell those because I haven’t seen a physical one in years.

I have never been able to shut it off. I think I only sleep out of exhaustion. I have an old thesaurus that I use in addition to the on-line one. It has some notes in it that become points of humor when I run across them. This was from my college days (just prior to the discovery of electricity) and some of the notes are laughable.

My old thesaurus disappeared when I moved back to New York. It might be around here somewhere. I here you on the exhaustion thing.

Giggled like a kid, haha. But yes! Try finding that word, that fits perfectly. Try not sleeping, because thoughts are overwhelming the night. Its bleeding tough! Hahaha!
    Nice little poem too, mister!

Perfect johnku for writers! Yay, it’s Friday! Taking the day off so I can finish up odds and ends before taking off for vacay (very very) early tomorrow 🙂 I feel like the penguin doing a happy dance. And that polar bear will be so me when I return to work 2 weeks from now.

We all hope you have a wonderful time. Sounds heavenly. Here is the margarita recipe should you need it. 1 part tequila. 1 part key lime juice,1 part water, 1 part orange liqueur, 1/2 part agave nectar. Shake till ice cold, serve in a pint mason jar (or big margarita glass) garnish with salt and lime wedge (if desired). Warning: Do not operate heavy equipment, machinery or automobiles while ingesting this self medication.

Hadn’t even considered there might be an off switch. 😛 Hope those margaritas work for you. 🙂

Good Johnku as always John. Evidently you’ve been working very hard on your writing of late. There is nothing like momentum when it comes to writing. I use an online Thesaurus. Enjoy the margarita. Have a good weekend.

I use on-line as well. I threw in the ‘thumbing’ part for sympathy. Have a wonderful weekend.

I love my thesaurus – i use one on the pooter and I have mine from High School! I love using it. I keep telling my new junior in HS kid that the thesaurus is like a cook’s rubber spatula – you best friend:) So, ok, not, but they are both awesomely beneficial to the task at hand!

Poor you! I still have a physical actual book Thesaurus and matching dictionary too 🙂 I use ’em both from time to time. It’s Saturday here already and
    Empty pitcher of margaritas
    Salty sour memory
    Dull headache

    🙂

Yes home makes it more difficult. A writer’s brain wouldn’t turnoff no matter where.

Oh “that” my most favorite enemy! My “ctrl-f” and I have a lot of fun – usually for a whole day – just trying to find, and eradicate, the word “that! Hope you had a good weekend, John.
