Friday JohnKU – AKA TGIF

a friday image   Friday and the rain is still coming down. I have to turn to something more uplifting that a continuous weather report. Let see, maybe I can look forward to the weekend and do something fun. I have a writer’s group meeting on Saturday, and that is always fun. I guess I will try to ignore the weather and look forward to the meeting. Of course, the roads have to be clear since I need to take a ferry and drive about a half hour to get there. The effort required to attend brings to mind the question of how much trouble does one endure to do something you like to do? In my case, the ferry ride is usually a fifteen minute wait both ways. In the summer, it can be as high as an hour. The drive after the ferry is twenty-five minutes. The meeting is two hours long so on average I travel two hours for a two-hour meeting. Since I love to attend and read my stuff and get some spot on advice, I would probably do it even if the travel times were longer. Am I crazy? Today’s JohnKu (a term coined by Words4jp) is all about what we will put up with to do what we love. I hope you enjoy. Pain for Pleasure by John W. Howell © 2015 Investment’s the name, Applied to the pain endured. . . For the sake of love.

It’s one thing when you have to do it (put int that long drive and the waiting and the logistics); it’s another when you do it by choice. My work commute is 25-30 minutes and I always dread it because I would so much prefer to stay home and write rather than go into the office. (Plus there’s all manner of bad drivers in TLH making the commute sometimes a hair-raising experience.)
But you apparently are getting a lot from your writer’s group and that makes the travel time all worthwhile. You love to attend. That’s all that counts. Have a wonderful weekend, John!

Thanks Marie. Work is the curse of the writing class. Have a good weekend as well.

It will be a great weekend because we’ll be on vacation from work next week😄 Maybe I’ll get some writing done!

Very well said. If you love doing it then no distance is too far.

That’s dedication. My group meets monthly, and sometimes it’s a 40 minute round trip for me. Depends on where I am that day. Makes my drive pale by comparison.

Hurricanes add a little degree of difficulty as well. Have a good weekend.

What we obtain too cheap we esteem too lightly. No Paine, no gain.

I like the Thomas reference. He was a challenge. I have to agree that there is value in working hard for the things we crave. Ben and Jerry’s made it too easy.

I think we endure quite a lot, and much can and will suffer for it. I hope your writer’s meeting goes well and lifts the storm clouds right out of here. Bring back the sun! (Time for a margarita yet?)

It’s all about passion of a thing. If you love it enough, you will jump through rings of fire of in your case swim across a rain drowned road to get to the ferry. 😛

Good point John. I was thinking the same thing earlier today – How we put up with a lot for what we love. Enjoy the writer’s group. There seems little doubt that you will be getting plenty of sunny and hot weather soon.

Here’s hoping the sun comes out in time for your trek to the writers’ meeting! Yes, something like that is definitely worth it — good feedback isn’t easy to find, you know!

Crazy is in the eye of the beholder (or perhaps psychologist)… When you’re doing what you love, I don’t call that crazy, I call that knowing what you want in life!
