Sunday – Views of the Neighborhood

On Friday of this week, a group of individuals organized and staged a one hundred person Flash mob formation of the peace symbol. The idea was to foster peace and understanding. The event included dancing and a skydive by a parachutist dressed as a mermaid.

The event was near the municipal pier on the beach. As you can see from the photo, the weather was perfect for such an event. The organizers felt responsible for bringing a message to all politicians that the government should be of the people, by the people, and for the people. The founders of the constitution tended to agree with this sentiment.

If you wonder about the kind of individuals who live in Port Aransas, this event was almost iconic in representing the majority view that government has lost its way. Most full-time residents have a high degree of skepticism when they hear the words, “I’m from the government, and I’m here to help you.”

Here is another view

I shan’t comment on the state of American politics (even though your President and at least one putative nominee consider it okay to try to dictate influence British politics), but I can see where that view comes from.

Yeah, all politicians try what they think they can get away with doing.

On land or in the water? The water sounds dangerous with a parachute though.

Success was measured in how many articles of clothing remained intact. All

This is really impressive, John. Scepticism towards the government, eh! Sigh. Let’s elect Donald Trump and fix everything… right?

This was the public feed from the website. I was going to label it mermaid view but that would be a lie.

Also I am too delicate to witness articles of mermaid clothing shredded by the wind. (there is not all that much)

Awesome, John, both the photos and the concept. Seems we walk a fine line between needing government for the things it’s able to do for us and shunning it for its intrusiveness. I can’t get enough of that view along the beach!

Very cool. I don’t think we’d be able to organize a giant peace symbol where I live now. Sounds too Marxist to the locals here. Then again, there’s a lot of pot growing in the woods too, I hear …

Great photos John. Did they arrange for the aerial view? Government? Here to help? With the government, like many businesses, once you get to the people who actually work for a living (not talking about politicians), I think they’re well-meaning.

I think government workers are well meaning. Policy makers are another thing entirely. The aerial view was a drone and they made the photos available. There is also a nice video.

It’s funny, I still haven’t gotten used to drones. I guess aerial shots are much more common today.

What a great event! Love the peace sign flash mob. It’s a great idea. Beautiful area too. Did the mermaid land in the water? I don’t like to discuss politics but I have to say things are looking scary here in the USA. : /

I’m taking a break from discussing politics, as well. Much rather be part of the peace sign rally unless they want to force me into some strange and organized view, as well. Cool photo!

Great photos of a positive effort. John, I won’t comment on the politics except to say, I think the government is in dire straits, but the current selection of candidates is even scarier.

When I first saw the photo, I went – WOW – John had a ringside seat – they must have done this for him! Meanwhile, understanding to work toward solutions is a foreign concept to our elected leaders … then again, the people complain yet the people elected these people.
