Another work week has slipped by us all. Friday is upon us once again and with it the promise of deserved rest over the weekend. Of course, if you are like me there is a complete list of things to do just waiting. Those of you who have regular jobs probably think us loafing full-time writers have all kinds of time to get those little home chores done during the week.
I have seen the looks at Lowes. “You look retired. What the hell are you doing here on the weekend? Why don’t you give us workers a break and stay the hell home.” That was the look put down in words. I have an answer. There never is enough time during the week to get those tiny tasks done. After all, there are posts to write, edits to do, new fiction to invent, new google research topics, coffee to drink, and tweets to publish. I haven’t even mentioned the dogs to walk, the bike to ride and photo’s to be taken I DESERVE TO GO TO LOWES ON THE WEEKEND JUST AS MUCH AS THE NEXT PERSON.
Whew. I had to get that off my chest. The truth is I just can’t imagine going to Lowes during the week. I would miss the crowds, the lack of checkers, the unavailable help, and the general feeling of accomplishment just getting out of the place with half of what I went there to buy. So I’ll still truck to Lowes on the weekend to check in with my fellow do it your selfers (yes, I know that is not a word) and revel in our mutual bond of misery. Why change? Oh, and the John Ku this week asks a question about change. Hope you like it.

Happy Friday the 13th, John! You tell ’em at Lowes (and anywhere else). Heck, I’m trying to do both, even though I limit myself to only half-way doing “indie” since there’s no time for the marketing. So I agree completely about how much work writing is. I don’t think I could call you “retired.” You just changed careers. Have a fabulous Friday. Mega hugs.

Remembering my Home Depot time, the weekend crowds were crazy, but it was so much worse when nothing was happening. You would have to find work and stand in the open asking for people to come to your line even if they aren’t done. Don’t even get me started on feeling abandoned in the Garden Department. At least customers makes the time go by.

It was in Florida, so it’d be for water. I was so happy whenever a customer bought me water. Especially since there I’d be forgotten at least once a week, which meant no break for lunch.

Only made it 89 days. I know the exact number because I’d have gotten retroactive pay if I made it to 90. Wasn’t told that until my last day.

Don’t think it was made public knowledge until the day because they wanted to avoid people working 90 days, getting the pay, and bailing. Honestly, I wasn’t having fun there.

When I was doing the major renovation on our house, I was stopping at Home Depot at 6:00 am, right when they open. The sales staff were pleasant. They hadn’t had customers to deal with yet. I try to avoid those stores on the weekends, John. I didn’t know I was missing my chance to hang with you.

Ugh…Lowes or Home Depot on the weekend is the worst. Actually, most places are packed on the weekend. I think I’ll stay home. 🙂 Have a great one, John!

Good point about not finding help during the weekdays. My husband and I have experienced that when we had the brilliant idea of going to Lowe’s or Home Depot during the week. As for your johnku (besides the fact that it’s excellent), I feel that struggle too. Part of me wants change (as in moving to another state once we’re both retired), but another part of me has grown quite comfortable with our house and life where we are. Change has always made me nervous even when I knew it was necessary or even instigated it myself. I just try to “roll with it.” https://youtu.be/Ch_ai4duCRU

Here’s a little tip. When you walk out with only half of what you wanted, you can balance your karma by going to Costco. I always leave there with twice what I wanted.

I am yet to visit a Lowes John. Hopefully I’ll get a chance one of these days. American customer service is so much better than ours, I am sure it will be a pleasure. Will make sure to stop by on a Saturday, looking retired. Have a good weekend.

I do hate shopping anywhere on the weekend, but still do it though I’m retired. 😦 😛
