Now that we are close to Halloween, I want to bring you in on a contest that has been running for the month of October. Tracy Davis Shaw, the owner of Sirena Outfitters here in Port Aransas, came up with an idea to have a Scarecrow contest. A number of merchants and town’s people joined in. I do not have the room to show you all the entries but have picked some of the cleverest.

Hard to top Beach Crow. That biking one nights just do it though.

  The bike was the local middle school entry. Very creative. They depicted crows chasing the scarecrow. (They are above his head)

      Chips and salsa on the table over there. Peanuts are in the cupboard but you need to sign a peanut allergy release form. 😀

This was fun, John. Great contest idea. Since there doesn’t seem to be much in the way of corn fields at the beach, maybe these scarecrows will keep tourists off the beach? 😀 A hopeful thought at least. Have a sublime Sunday. Mega hugs.

Beach Crow is a pretty good entry, but I’m going with the pigs at Hog Island.

We have Scarecrow contests around Harvest Festival time as well. We’re not close enough to the beach but we do have lots of countryside-themed models with farmers, shepherds and green wellie wearers. Last year we even had a traffic cop scarecrow at the local speed trap, complete with speed gun – that certainly almost stopped the traffic altogether!

Interesting neighbors you have there. I like the one at the Realtor’s. He looks more traditional if less different.

Rhonda was extremely disappointed with the apathetic English attempt at Halloween. It just isn’t a thing here, except for the trick or treating (which is a relatively new U.S. import anyway) and the occasional sad looking pumpkin.
