Now that we are close to Halloween, I want to bring you in on a contest that has been running for the month of October. Tracy Davis Shaw, the owner of Sirena Outfitters here in Port Aransas, came up with an idea to have a Scarecrow contest. A number of merchants and town’s people joined in. I do not have the room to show you all the entries but have picked some of the cleverest.
Here is the poster
Here are some the entries. If you click on the Sirena Outfitters link, you can see more.
Hard to top Beach Crow. That biking one nights just do it though.

The bike was the local middle school entry. Very creative. They depicted crows chasing the scarecrow. (They are above his head)

Cool. Those are the school projects that people remember doing.

Yes, the kids did it all. š

Ah, but do they keep the birds off the crops? Proof of the pudding, and all that good stuff.

We found the birds like the straw for nesting. So I doubt it. Thanks, Keith.

I would have a difficult time judging this contest, John. They’re all so creative. You live in such a fun area. Happy Sunday, John!

Thanks, Jill. Happy Sunday to you. Someday I’ll tell the story of the party bus that we took to view them. I’ll give you a hint. *stripper pole in the back*

I’ll second Jill on that, John! My favorites are, the lady in the chair with her facial goop; and the raven on the beach! Thanks for sharing Port Aransas with us!

Thanks for stopping by, John. Always a pleasure to see you here. Here take this margarita.

(Sips appreciatively) Mmmm, very tasty. Where are the peanuts?

Chips and salsa on the table over there. Peanuts are in the cupboard but you need to sign a peanut allergy release form. š

This was fun, John. Great contest idea. Since there doesn’t seem to be much in the way of corn fields at the beach, maybe these scarecrows will keep tourists off the beach? š A hopeful thought at least. Have a sublime Sunday. Mega hugs.

Thanks, Teagan. I don'[t think anything short of a Hurricane would keep them away. š Super Sunday to you.

Beach Crow is a pretty good entry, but I’m going with the pigs at Hog Island.

I liked that one as well. The owner of Hog Island was afraid someone would take is good boots so he brought them in each night. Thanks, Dan

LOL! Love these John! š
We have Scarecrow contests around Harvest Festival time as well. We’re not close enough to the beach but we do have lots of countryside-themed models with farmers, shepherds and green wellie wearers. Last year we even had a traffic cop scarecrow at the local speed trap, complete with speed gun – that certainly almost stopped the traffic altogether!

The cop sounds hilarious. I would have loved to sit and watch the cars slow down. Thanks, Jan.

What a great event, John. If I had to pick a winner then it would be the face mask and feet in the bucket one. What brilliant fun.

That one belongs to a day spa business. I have to say it was good. (Those are cucumbers on the eyes.) Thanks, Hugh

I use them all the time, John. But, not on my eyes š±

Supposed to reduce puffiness. So if you never have puffiness then I would say keep them in the salad. š

I’m glad I don’t have to judge these clever entries, John. You’ve done a great job picking the most interesting ones to show us, though. By any chance, are you going to tell us who wins as well?!

I think the pirate, if that’s what he is, looks the most intriguing. Imagine seeing him at night while walking. Could scare me, for sure.

Rhonda was extremely disappointed with the apathetic English attempt at Halloween. It just isn’t a thing here, except for the trick or treating (which is a relatively new U.S. import anyway) and the occasional sad looking pumpkin.

I would imagine it all too bothersome. Boo! (That was for Rhonda)
