Views of the Neighborhood

Yesterday the town held its annual Golf Cart Holiday parade to benefit the Port Aransas EMS Toy Roundup. I tried to get to the front of the line to snap photos as the parade wound its way through town. Unfortunately,  I couldn’t get there so had to be satisfied with taking some shots of some of the entries after the finish. The idea for the parade is to dress up your golf cart (yes there is judging) and join in the fun. An unwrapped toy is the entry fee.

These carts do not look like your typical golf course variety. The suspension is built up and tires supersized so that maneuvering in the sand is not a problem.

Here are some of the entries.

The first is a riff on a boat

This one looks like it was painted for the holiday

This one came with an elf

Tons of presents ( and back side of the elf)

Looks like this one hit a doll. You can see it on the windshield. (another Elf and Santa helper)

Here is a cart that has all-weather side curtains. Must be from Minnesota.

Here is a cute riff on Hula skirt. Cute little reindeer too!

Now this Land Rover was a nice addition. Came all the way from Australia (kidding)

The sign reads “Random Acts of Friends” which pretty well sums up the spirit of Port Aransas

Now that is a strange golf cart. Yes, the police took part as well as the firefighters.

I hope you enjoyed the tour.

  1. Love it! I immediately thought it was in FL but you’re in TX. Looks like a really fun place to live. Small population too compared to Atlanta where I reside. Although my office is only 12 miles from my house, it takes an average of 45 min to an hour to get there every morning….Sigh. Now you know why I’m so sarcastic in my Mullet Monday posts 🙂 Happy Sunday John!

    1. I used to travel into Atlanta (Buckhead area) and always wondered about the traffic. I would take the train from the airport and watch the cars sit forever. I sympathize with your Monday angst. As I’ve said “Work is the curse of the drinking class.” Thanks for the visit. 🙂

  2. John, these were a hoot — thanks for making my morning brighter! I loved the first one, with that poor reindeer dangling from the front. And, of course, the one from Minnesota with the all-weather curtains — poor Domer could tell us a thing or two about the necessity of those, ha!!

  3. The first hotel I worked was actually comprised o several properties, some of which had outdoor-access rooms; we used golf carts to travel around. I loved it though i wish my wheels were as cool as some of these….

  4. You guys have some cool events, and the cause is worthy too. Love that Land Rover. PS: Some of these are still not getting to my Reader. I had to go looking for this one and the story post earlier this week.

      1. 🙂 I’ve a got a little diddy in my head now that goes…”Oh, what fun it is to ride a golf cart round the island!…”

Or, “Dashing through the land on a 4 wheeled golf cart…”

With a little more humming I’m likely to come up with more lines. 🙂
