Friday JohnKu – AKA -TGIF

TGIF

Friday is here and with it the promise of a couple of days of diversion from real life. This week has been one of catching up.  A number of things that have been in the category of “nice to have finished.” What I mean is they are the items that are not crucial to life but would be great if accomplished. For example including the new cover in the Twitter Gravatar. These are not Earth shattering items but do take time.

The first update on the Amazon Marketing Services is as follows.

After two weeks My GRL has received over 17,000 impressions and 14 clicks resulting in one sale. Not too impressive, so what I will be doing is tweaking some elements and see if I can raise the click rate. I’ll let you know how it comes out.

Today’s JohnKu talks about refining an approach that doesn’t work. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

You try one way first,

Doesn’t work. There’s two options. . .

Keep failing or change.

I recognise the picture John. It is Will Ferrell from Anchorman. A rather puerile film perhaps, but hilarious. I have heard good things about Amazon Marketing Services, but as you say it no doubt takes some tweaking, and doesn’t work overnight.

Tes, Guy. I have a lot to learn and figure this is the first step.

Great advice, good sir. You got one more sale than I did when I tried that marketing with Amazon. As always, I couldn’t sell water to a man dying of thirst.

My results were a bit better, but similar. It seems like Chris McMullen or Nicholas Rossis posted about Amazon promos last year. Their advice was that it’s a volume game. A bunch of people have to see it before someone clicks on it. A bunch of people have to click before someone buys. They aren’t terribly expensive, but I’ve had as much success on Twitter. They worked better when run in conjunction with other pushes. Blog tour + Facebook Push + Kindle Countdown Deal + Amazon ad. Maybe it’s better to be extremely visible for a short time. It’s all guesswork.

Yeah. i wish I had the knowledge to know which lever to pull. I’ll have to do trial and error (the lowest form of learning)

That’s how all of this stuff works. I got interested in Twitter ads but they look too rich for my blood. Another friend swears by Facebook ads. If you try a bunch of stuff at once, you’ll never know what caused the success. In the long run, an adjustment here and there might be more educational.

When I was working, I had one rule that I never broke: never change anything on Friday. Fridays are cursed.

Thanks for letting us know your results — sorry they weren’t more appealing. The good news is, you have options and you can tweak a few things in an effort to see if something else works better. Nobody wants to paint themselves into a corner! Good JohnKu and most timely too.

It is always a choice. Insanity was once defined as continuing to make the same mistake but expecting a different outcome.
