The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS March 10/18

So Far by John W. Howell © 2018

“So what do you have so far?”

“Dear Mr. President.”

“Yes well. Ahem. Dear Mr. President.”

“You  already  said that.”

“I know, I know I’m just trying to warm up.”

“Why not a couple of laps around the building.”

“I mean to the subject. Not actually a physical warm-up.”

“Fine. You’re the boss.”

“Now, where was I?”

“Dear Mr. President.”

“Oh yeah. Ahem.”

“Don’t say ‘Dear Mr. President’ again.”

“For heaven’s sake. How am I ever going to get this letter dictated if you keep interrupting?”

“It is a challenge I’ll admit.”

“Okay, I’m going to ignore you and just go through it.”

“The last time you ignored me remember what happened?”

“When was that?”

“Yesterday.”

“I can’t recall. What happened?”

“I told you to turn left on Forest Avenue and what did you do?”

“But there was a no left turn sign.”

“Ah, so you do remember. Tell everyone what happened next.”

“Em, we went straight ahead.”

“To what end.”

“The road it ended.”

“Yup and how much did it cost to have the car towed?”

“Wait a minute I never told you that.”

“You used your debit card. All I had to do was look at the transaction.”

“Can we get back to the letter?”

“Tell the folks how much.”

“Two hundred bucks.”

“Now don’t you feel better?”

“I’ll tell you what would make me feel better, Siri. Stay away from my debit card.”

“Not gonna happen boss. Okay, so far you have, ‘Dear Mr. President.”‘

And then Alexa laughs creepily in the background. Kind of glad I don’t use any of these electronic assistants.

Her and Cortana failed me pretty quickly. Was not sad about shutting them down.

Cortana is the worst. I had to shut her off as well.

I would NEVER dictate a letter to anyone using Siri……she likes to editorialize.

On another note: let’s just say I would not recommend using the Android Speech to Text feature to message your wife unless you are comfortable sleeping in a shed for an entire Minnesota winter.

Ha ha ha. I can imagine the outcome. There are a couple of key words that Android speech gets wrong every time.

PS- I think my Alexa wants to kill me . . send help.

I don’t use Siri much either – except in general conversation with other people and someone might wonder what the population of a place is, or some such, and I brighten – a question for Siri! She never lets me down! I haven’t investigated Alexa yet – I’m sure the cost is staggering. Great post so far, John!

Ha, I took a jab at Siri in my last book. Lots of promise there, not so much delivery.

I was so excited when I got mySiri enabled phone (dark ages). It was so disappointing. Even now the only thing she get right is the time.

I tried to get her to play a song by Pink one day. Turns out, on that song she spelled it P!nk. Siri had a meltdown.

Tee-hee! You retain your title as Twist Master, John. But that’s as expected. Love that it turned out to be your nav system.
When I first moved to DC, trying to find something near the office, mine kept giving me directions that took me to the back parking lot of (one of dozens of) a Federal building. I kept thinking there must have been a driveway that i missed, and there also was no maneuverability, so it was hard NOT to keep making the same mistake. The guards came out… (Maybe you have a beginning for Ten Things Not to do If You Want to Avoid Terrorist Charges.) Happy weekend hugs.

I have read many of your Stream of Consciousness Saturday conversations which I always enjoy, but I never knew that you were talking with Siri before. Was this letter about Trump and Stormy Davis?

This is the first time I was talking to Siri. No this was a complaint to the neighborhood association about the neighbor’s loud music.

As with all things even Siri you trust, but verify! I always look up where I’m going beforehand when going to place I’ve never driven to before, because Siri, and my GPS units; Stuck up Stephanie, Simon, and Randy have got it wrong too many times Although Simon was the best of the lot…but that unit died early on so… 🙂 So far preplanning has worked well for me.

Great twist John. I never saw Siri coming. 🙂
