Walking the pups on Saturday, it looked like the day was going to be overcast. Secretly I was hoping the fog would stay since it is spring break time.
Well, no such luck. As you can see the first day of spring break was beautiful. Kites in the sky told me there were people on the beach.
Looking North my worst fear was confirmed.
The ground view did not show any improvement.
Camps were set up.
The Beach Patrol was on the prowl.
The kids were getting warmed up for a good old-time. (to be read drunk)
State Troopers were there with drug-sniffing dogs. We witnessed an interrogation and search of a suspect.
The crazies were out with their motorized equipment, lawn chair and carpet.
The pelicans were keeping formation in spite of the chaos below.
The blue heron was keeping watch over his mile marker perch.
To support law enforcement who come from all over during spring break, our neighborhood volunteered to fix two-weekend meals for the officers, EMTs and support staff.
Saturday night was Chili night. Debbie Robertson organized the event, and our community is Beachwalk II.
There were about 72 meals served.
The meal gave the officers a little time to relax and share stories.

Spring ‘break’ is an ironic term for those peeps in uniform. It’s great to see they were taken care of with some good food, that’s really cool.

I love the community spirit on display, John. Have your girls ever gotten close to the working dogs? I’ve often wondered what Maddie would do if she ran into our K-9 unit. I fear the worst 🙁

I cringed when I saw your title for this post. You’ve indicated that there were lots of law enforcement folks from all over… but the scope of it didn’t sink in until you said 72 meals served. Wow. That’s a lovely gesture from the community to them. Heartwarming. (And that’s nothing to do with any heartburn from frito pies. 😉 I know, but how could I resist?)

How wonderful that the “producer” and others help to support the law enforcement. Hopefully, the crowds won’t get to out of control. Hum…alcohol and climbing on top of a bus…doesn’t seem like the best idea. 🙂 Good luck, John!

I love Port Aransas – but spring break, not so much. Not so much is the kindest thing I can say. I understand how it feeds the economy and I understand that kids need a place to play…but not so much.
It warms my heart to see what the community does for the cops. It is indicative of why anyone who has spent time there, loves the place.

Clearly, things get ramped up a notch in your area. I’m not sure they bring in troop(er) reinforcements in Galveston. It’s wonderful that your community helps out as it does, with meals and other kinds of support. I laughed at your Heart of Darkness remark. How appropriate — especially since some of the so-called “fun” is a little darker and more dangerous than it used to be.

I have a question… perhaps a dumb one… how in Hades do people get a dune bike on the roof of a car and get it back down? I sympathize about the Spring Break woes… makes me VERY happy that Spring Breakers don’t come to my neck of the woods to play in the snow…

Wow! John, your community amazes me. They even turn a negative situation into something fun and worthwhile. While most probably don’t like the invasion, they come together to help those patroling the beach and keeping everyone safe. I love the dinner idea.

What a wonderful idea, serving meals to those who have to work the Spring Break crowds! Looks like you’re going to have a crowd, too. All those sunny skies and miles of sandy beach are just too much of a temptation to kids who’ve been cooped up in classrooms and fighting the cold snows! Take heart, John — your “invaders” will be gone soon.

When we used to fly kites on the beach there used to be a sport where people tied their like go-carts to a kite and whiz along the beach at breakneck speeds. My Mum used to constantly worry they couldn’t stop if we got in their way so we always had to move on if they came on the beach. Exciting to watch but it took over space.

Happy Spring Break, John. I can see why people want to visit that beautiful beach. Such a great thing to do in providing the Law Enforcers with a meal. Hope the crowds were not too noisy. Some of them looked to be having good fun. Was there loud music being played near that bus where the kids are standing on top of the roof?

Loud is an under-description. As The Producer and I drove by a guy on the loudspeaker said, “Lets make some f—in noise.”
