It is Friday. Our thoughts and prayers go to those affected by Hurricane Michael. Currently, there have been two deaths reported and an untold amount of damage. Power is out for over 800,000 residents. It will be a long recovery for those in the path.

Much of it is due to the tornadoes that accompany them.

Nature presents many challenges. Fortunately, so many are there to help each other get through. My thoughts are with those affected by powerful Michael. And I think of the Twiggy’s out there, needing to be rescued from the damage. :-0

The truth is, many people are far stronger than they ever imagined they could be after an event like Michael (or Harvey, or Ike, or…). Part of the reason people sit around and begin telling stories about past hurricanes when a new one has formed is, I suspect, to remind themselves that whatever comes, they will be able to cope — as hard as it will be.

I agree. I witnessed folks who lost everything volunteering to help feed others. It brought tears of appreciation for their spirit.

I just got an email from my son in North Carolina. They lost electric power clear up there. I wasn’t worried as I didn’t think the storm would affect them up that far but it did. I’m so glad this storm didn’t get near you in Texas but feel so sorry for those it did affect. Take care and have a good weekend, John. That’s a cute picture of Twiggy. —- Suzanne

From the photos, one would see a swath of houses turned to tinder, then another set of houses with the roofs blown off, then another set with very little visible structural damage. It seems to say a great deal about construction methods and building codes.

We noticed the same here in Port A. The only other factor is some houses are hit by tornados and others missed. Where there are no tornados I would say the construction plays a big role. Our hous was built in 2007 with the latest codes and received little damage. Other older homes were damaged more.

Yes, Guy. Mexico Beach is on the Eastern side of the Gulf and we are on the west. It looks very bad there.

Those of us who have struggled in a hurricane’s aftermath know how much strength it’s going to take, right, John? I’m glad there wasn’t more loss of life from Michael, though even one death is a tragedy. Hurricane season seems to want to hang on, despite its “end” in November. Hang on, Twiggy!!!

I hope you don’t have a bad back, John, as Twiggy looks like she might get the better of you 😉 Your Johnku is perfect. Too many people lost homes, livelihood, and loved ones. We were lucky, my whole city was lucky. Michael took a swipe at us but pummeled everyone else. I’ve got power back after only 47 hours without it, and I do mean *only* given all the trees and power lines that came down. A lot of people are still without so I’m grateful for every kWh. Have a great weekend, John, and thank you for your thoughts and prayers 😘

And while the southeast has suffered the destruction of Hurricane Michael, I heard that Duluth, MI was slammed by a very destructive Nor’easter that did considerable damage. So many in need of prayers!

The death toll went up to 13, John and the “Search and Rescue” team is still looking through the rubbish in the Florida panhandle (Mexico Beach) which was devastated by Hurricane Michael. Your haiku is very insightful and true. Have a wonderful weekend. 🙂

I’m late catching up, John. Reading the news, the death toll is climbing and the destruction in some places is unbelievable. I feel so bad for the people effected by this storm. I hope you’re having a quiet (weather) weekend.
