Views of the Neighborhood – Winter Sunday

The days between Christmas and New Year are pretty low-key around the neighborhood. I thought I would give you two views of the Gulf while the sky is overcast and the wind is blowing. The temperature was in the fifties. All in all a winter day.

A shot of the Gulf from the boardwalk. Shows the dune in its winter shade of brown as well.

A shot from the ground level. The Gulf is churning.

It is the Gulf of Mexico viewed from Mustang Island which is off the coast of South Texas near Corpus Christi.

The “churning” makes the Gulf appear even more mysterious. Your blog header and these two photos offer quite the contrast between the seasons. Happy New Year to you and yours, John.

Pictures like that make it easy to reflect on where the ocean meets the shore and all the ramifications. These are pictures (scenes) you could get lost in.

If it weren’t for the wind I could stand out there for hours. Thanks, Dan

Your skies look like ours, John. We’ve had so much rain, I’m feeling like a mushroom. Loved the photos!

Thank you, Jill. I just remembered I forgot a Happy Saturday song. Here it is Happy Sunday *sung to the tune of White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane.

LOL! I didn’t want to mention it, but thanks for remembering! When I was younger, that song used to scare me. 🙂

This is my time of year for the beach. Where it’s not so well-groomed, the shelling can be great. I confess I prefer things a little warmer, but the nice thing about gray skies and temperatures in the 50s is the significant absence of boom boxes. The photos are great captures of winter on our coast.

We found some grat shells. When the waves are high the deep water shells come in. Thanks, Linda.

Lovely and peaceful, despite the churning. Something special about walking on a deserted winter beach – not that I’ve had the chance that often.

    Good morning, John,
“In between the years” it’s not actually low-key here in Fritztown. As usual in the holiday season, we have (too) many tourists. But the, as we live at the edge of the city and don’t go to the city centre very often, it doesn’t bother us too much.
Al the best to you and yours for 2019,
    Pit

The ocean at any time of the year is a wonderful thing to take in. The enormity of it is humbling.

That’s probably why I always loved swimming in the ocean. Because I could make it small that way, or smaller anyway. When you swim in the ocean, it’s only as big as the tips of your fingers and toes.

Hello John. It looks like your winter is very similar to ours here in south Florida. I’m surprised there aren’t people riding three-wheelers or walking on the beach. Nice photos. 🙂
