The Activity Center in Lakeway is a hectic place. There are events and classes every day. Today I wan,t to highlight an event that takes place during January and February. It is the brown bag music sessions held on Thursdays. There is a signpost up ahead. Let’s go investigate.
As you can see, the event is free. Folks bring lunch and hear super music.
Here we are at the Activities Center. Let’s go in.
Oh my. The place is packed. The band is playing a catchy country tune.
The music brings back memories.
It looks like some forgot lunch. Well, maybe after.
This is Frank Cavett & Friends and their honky-tonk renditions. During one introduction, Frank stated he had never played in a place with so much light. He said it was a little scary that he could see the audience. Yes, a big laugh.
Here is the schedule for the rest of February.
As you could tell by the audience photos, this is a pleasant opportunity for our seniors to get out and enjoy the sounds.
I plan to take you to other Activity Center events but for now, thanks for coming along.
I love your peeks into Lakeway. With performer names like Steel Betty, Lakeway Wildflowers, The Second Line Jazz Band, I’d be sure to attend! 🙂

I have to admit while taking the pictures I wanted to stay for the whole hour. These guys were very good. The piano player was terrific. Thanks, Gwen.

Activity Centers better be active, otherwise, petitions would circulate to change the name. Brown Bag Concert Series – perfect. Sure the concert is going to be loaded with senior citizens – but hey – they are the ones with the time to attend! Besides, by noon, pickleball has been played, steps have been walked, and may have already had lunch!

Any chance they’ll be booking ZZ Top? I’d drive in from Houston for that one! I’m glad to see they’ve got such a good audience, and it is a nice schedule. That’s the sort of activity that can provide a lot of pleasure to a lot of people.

I agree on the idea of providing pleasure. I would love to see ZZ Top myself. Thanks, Linda.

What a great event for the community. Although I’m not a senior, I know I’d enjoy it, too. That’s nice they cater to the seniors, especially those with memory impairment. My mother loves when I turn on the 50’s station in the car. She’ll sing along, remembering all of the words. Thanks for sharing, John!

Having played in bands, I can understand that so much light would be strange when your on stage. You probably have to concentrate more on what you’re playing, with you can constantly see the audience and make out the faces, people, etc.

We have an activity centre nearby, and that is aptly named for us, and even in German, at that: Seniorenzentrum. 😉
Have a wonderful Sunday,

Any audience participation? What song from your memory storage would you have brought out, good John? I can hear that ‘gravelly voice’ singing, ‘I Did It My Way’! 🙂

I love this! There should be more centres like this that don’t charge an arm and a leg for you to attend. A great way to meet people and discover music…
