Well, the week is almost over. Eight more hours, and it will be weekend eve.
Quite a week, actually. The Superbowl was an excellent game. For one who had no allegiance to either team, I certainly found the game better than the commercials. That last nine minutes was almost classic in its come from behind drama. For those who don’t know what I’m talking about, let me just say there was some exceptional teamwork displayed that allowed the losing team (Kansas City) to pass the leading organization (San Francisco) to win the game.
The Iowa Democratic caucus blew up with a new, untested app. It amazes me that no one thought to really test this app in live conditions. The voters and volunteers who worked hard on the campaigns were the losers in this fiasco. Of course, a couple of candidates said they won. The usual conspiracy theorists were also out in force, blaming everyone except maybe the Russians for the mess.
We had the State of the Union address with all the usual manure piles being thrown around. A lot of immature children were without supervision that night, and it is clear party politics will continue to throttle progress.
This week also saw Donald Trump acquitted of the two impeachment charges brought by the house. My summary of the whole thing is a partisan move by the house was offset by a partisan move by the Senate for a sum zero gain at a pretty healthy cost. Of course, the vitriol remans. I was shocked to read one blogger wish the Coronavirus on the Senate leadership and the President. Another thought payback against Democrats would be a good thing. Come on, folks. Don’t match the juvenile behavior in Washington with the same out here in real life.
It is really time for Americans to come together more than ever. Hatred should live elsewhere and not in our own town.

I used to teach first and second graders. I think most of those in Congress should have received a “time out” and made to put their heads down. I agree about the immature behavior. At least the senators got good exercise by sitting and standing. 😀 — Suzanne

I’d forgotten about those days when we were made to put our heads down on our desks as a class. I’m not sure when that practice stopped, but it might be good to reinstitute it in the Congress and elsewhere.

A few people need to be reminded that those who sow the wind sometimes reap the whirlwind. Perhaps if the tantrum-throwers stopped getting so much attention from the media, they’d get bored with their own behavior.

I think that if the voters would think about their elected official’s motivation they would cast them out immediately. I have been particularily upset with the leadership of the House and Senate. They all need to go.

I just watched a diversity meeting in Michigan spiral into something ugly, so yeah . . we have a surplus of vitriol happening right now. And no positive direction from the top, sadly.

John, what an eloquent way of saying what many of us feel. Voicing any opinion today seems to invite the torch and pitchfork crew to shout us down. Well done. As for the conspiracies… they make great fodder for books.

Thank you, Craig. The shouting and insults need to go away. There are many who don’t want to voice an opinion since the name calling will immediately start. It is a sad thing. To see it in the worst light, go to trending on Twitter. Such hate I’ve never read before I agree on the book fodder comment.

Amen, John — well stated! This is the first time I watched the Super Bowl in its entirety and, like you, I didn’t really have a horse in that race. Still, it was an amazing display of determination and will-to-win, even though I only got a chuckle out of two commercials toward the end. Happy Friday, my friend!

I enjoyed the superbowl, too. The team I was rooting the team who won which made it all the nicer.
I feel sick with how people are treating each other. The hatred is so heavy that we can’t move forward. In the mean time nothing is being resolved:(

Kansas City hadn’t won The Super Bowl in a very long time, so I hear John. Nice to see that Derrick Nnadi has paid for all those dogs from the shelter to be rehomed. A spark of kindness amongst all the vitriol of the past week.

A great Super Bowl. While the commercials were not good (I miss Budweiser and the Clydesdale horses) I really liked the Jeep commercial with Bill Murray and the groundhog. Childish behavior has no place in our government or elsewhere, as it breeds hatred. I nip this in the bud every day in my classroom. Excellent post, John.
