As I have written on past Memorial Days all ten things not to do on this day are the same. Do not fail to remember those who gave their lives to keep us free.

Happy Memorial Day, John! Skies are gray and it’s looking like rain — no pools are open, no barbecues planned. Still, there’s a lot to be grateful for.

I always think in gratitude of those (American) soldiers who gave their lives so that I, a German, could grow up in freedom.

Wonderful, John. I have my dad’s dog tag from 1943. I believe it is the only item of his that I have, but it certainly is precious. Thank you to all who serve or who have served!! ♥

I hope you had a peaceful Memorial Day, John.

In Romanian we would celebrate this on 23 August, The Liberation Day or Romania’s Liberation from Fascist Occupation Day. One day that ought to be celebrated, yet tinted by the Communist regime that used to turn it into a day to idolize its leaders.
