Thursday – A Little Personal – Twiggy and Lucy Do Dishes

“So Twiggy. We have a golden opportunity right here.”

“What do you mean?

The dishwasher is unattended. Check it out. I’ll keep an eye out.”

“Okay, but what do I do when I get there?”

“Goodness. Don’t tell me you’ve never done the dishes?”

“Isn’t that what a dishwasher does?”

“No, yes. I mean, look at those babies sitting there covered with food.”

“I see them. What do we do?”

“We engage our tongues and sweep all that food into our mouths.”

“Like this?”

“Not the rack. Stand aside, Little One. I mean, you get your mug right in the middle and start licking.”

“You sure that’s sanitary?”

Who cares. It beats finding something on the road.”

“Now, that is something I would never eat.”

“Well, that was an example. I wouldn’t expect you to know about living on the streets.”

“I only know about living with Mom and dad.”

Hey, you two. You’re not licking those dishes, are you?”

“Why would we do that when we have all that wonderful food from you and dad?”

“Good answer, Little one. Now excuse me. I think there is a little bit of peanut butter left.”

“I was only speaking for myself.”

“I know, and let’s hope you always stay as pure as you are now.”

My doggo does the same when she thinks we’re not looking… dishes are not ready for this dishwasher unless they’ve been Lab-tested🤣

Our Lab is sure that an open dishwasher is really a buffet laid out solely for his pleasure. And at 9 years old, despite years of being chastised for sticking his nose in, he still sneaks a lick whenever possible. Hope springs eternal! At least he doesn’t drink for the toilet. 😂

Lucy is always game for a lick. I have to make sure there are no harmful bits like chocolate. Thanks, Lori.

A dishwasher is a treasure trove of delight for dogs. Mine used to climb into the dishwasher and lick away – unless I walked in the room. Your pups seem better trained than mine. Delightful post, John. 😁

I thought dishwasher-diving was an instinct in dogs. I didn’t realize it was a lesson Lucy would have to teach Twiggy. My dogs seemed to be born with the “sneak and eat” gene. Funny stuff, John. Belly rubs for the girls.

I’ve lived all these years completely unaware that dogs would do this, but from the comments, it seems widespread. Getting what’s under the table? Sure. What’s on the kitchen floor? Of course. But I never would have imagined the dishwasher!

It’s amazing how a dog can be ‘sleeping’ one minute and then jumping to life the next in order to grab some tiny morsel that fell off the counter during cleanup. Puts credibility to the term, ‘faster than a bum on a balogna sandwich’…

Monkey would do this if I let him. In fact, when he was a wee pup, he used to find it delightful to hop into the dishwasher when the door was down. Silly pup! Now, I’m afraid I wash the dishes pretty carefully before they even go into the dishwasher.
