Views of the Neighborhood – Crape Myrtles in Bloom

Happy Father’s Day and Happy Juneteenth.

The crape myrtles have been late blooming this year. They have finally made an appearance, and we need to go and check them out. I have to say, some of the shots are a little subdued due to the hazy conditions this week. So that we don’t go hungry on our tour, we are catered by Grizzeldas of Austin. Our entertainment is Neil Diamond.

  1. Do you know that the Crepe Myrtle is the official Texas state shrub? Unfortunately, the politicians who chose it didn’t notice that it isn’t native, so a compromise was struck, and Cenizo, or Texas Purple Sage, was named the state native shrub.

  3. The crape myrtles are so gorgeous. We have some fabulous mimosa trees in bloom here. Such a colourful time of the year. So great to see Neil Diamond perform. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing him perform live a few years back. Amazing. Sad to hear his health is not so good. I’ll place an order for migas, please. Have a fabulous Sunday, John.

  4. Happy Father’s Day, John. Just reading the menu made me hungry. Beautiful crape myrtles. We don’t have those around here, so I appreciate the tour. The variety of shades is a delight. Have a wonderful Sunday. 🙂

  5. My crepe myrtle is a miniature…actually more like an underfed dwarf. My husband keeps trimming it back until there is not much left to trim.
Love your photos. Thanks for sharing and Happy Father’s Day.

  6. How I love these, John! When I lived in Texas, we had some of what they called Watermelon Red Crepe Myrtles, and they were just stunning. Your photos bring back some wonderful memories. And our Band just finished playing “Sweet Caroline.” Happy Father’s Day!

  7. I’ll just have some house chips & salsa tomato. I was sleep walk eating last night, and my appetite is in the jar of peanut butter I scraped clean.
Those tress and flowers are beautiful. I’d never heard of Crape Myrtles until now.
Of course, when I read the title,I thought crapes/crepes would be on the menu.
    Love the song!!!

    1. Thank you, Resa. The two words are pronounced the same. One is for eating and one to look at. Glad you came along. Sorry about your overnight fling with peanut butter cause I had a vegan dish just for you. 😊

  8. Hurrah! Myrtles are blooming again! It seems to me that it is a sort of an international blogging feast, dear John. 🙂 The last photo is incredible! Bravo! 🍤🍤🍤🍟🌭🍻

  9. I’ve always loved these trees. We recently drove by our old house in SC where I planted one about thirty years ago and it’s still there. Ours here in KY haven’t bloomed yet, but it shouldn’t be long.
