Since it is fawn time again, it seems we should check to see how the deer are getting along. Today we are catered by Paperboys in Austin. Our entertainment is Big and Rich.
BRUNCH
classic breakfast -two eggs, maple sausage, potato wedges, buttered toast, strawberry preserves
quiche -smoked eggplant, summer squash, onion, feta, red pepper, dressed arugula salad
paperboy pancake – warm maple syrup, brown butter, sea salt add blueberries or chocolate chips
texas hash-braised pork, sweet potato, onion, kale, poached egg, pecan mole
migas – goat carnitas, pico de gallo, cotija, serrano hot sauce, grilled tortillas add avocado
steak & eggs -44 farms steak, chimichurri, sunny eggs, potato wedges, secret sauce, arugula
chicken & biscuit – crispy-fried chicken, country gravy, sunny egg, spicy honey
pastrami cured lox.
So let’s go.
Looks like dad had babysitting duties.

Deer grow new antlers every year. The velvet around the stubs of antlers provides the blood and oxygen that the antlers need to fully mature.

They all seem to be doing quite well. It would seem the rocks would hinder a young deer in getting to its feet, but who am I to question nature. A wonderful tour today, John, thank you.

They seem to do okay on the rocks. I think the Mama’s believe they blend in better than on the grass.

These deer are so beautiful! We had a deer in our yard a couple of days ago having a little nibble (not of my hostas, thankfully).

We have our vegetable garden fenced but not anything else.

Our deer will eat almost anything so if you want it you have to fence it.

The babies are so cute, John. You do have to wonder why they like the rocks. Maybe Charles is right. In any case, I’m glad you spotted them.
I’ll go with that classic breakfast – two eggs (over medium), maple sausage, potato wedges, buttered toast, strawberry preserves. Can we make that sourdough toast?

Hi John, it always amazes me how close the deer in your area come to the houses. They have no fear of humans.

They and humans have been together since the early 60s. These are sixth generation deer who do not know what it is like not to live with humans. Shows synergy can happen.

These are always a joy to see! Seems all are doing well. Perhaps they sleep on the rocks because they blend in. How nice to find one in your driveway!

We have a whole family that strolls down the driveway every morning. We have to wait for them to clear before walking Twiggy.

We live maybe 25 feet from a forest preserve and see deer, coyotes, fox and more. Fun

That there is a fun tune, tell you what. I am constantly amazed by the quantity of deer that just roam around willy-nilly, unafraid. Beautiful shots.

No bans per se. People just don’t use them.

We have a few neighbors but live in a reasonably woody area. I just came in from mowing the lawn on my riding mower, and three deer waltzed by like it was an everyday occurrence—quite a strange feeling.

We are used to the deer for sure. I had to stop and wait for a family to cross the driveway. (In no hurry I might add.)

Our deer come out at times here, but are much more shy than these folks appear to be. They obviously are way, way more relaxed with people than ours are. They are adorable.

We are kind to them. They have been living with humans since the early 60s. Tis is the sixth generation of deer.
