For the last ten years, this space on Tuesday has been devoted to prompts even though the title is “Anything Possible.”
Well, today, I thought something different would be in order.
I have two friends, Tom and Dan, who regularly suggest what they consider interesting items to include in the Saturday post. Dan, for example, suggested that Roger Rabbit would make a good character. Tom keeps supplying me with security items like the anti-submarine net in the moat and the Trebuchet. In addition, there are plenty of jokes and comments that go back and forth.
This last week was very typical, but I thought I would share an example of one suggestion Tom made and a corresponding upgrade by Dan.
Tom suggested including the following list of facts in a post.
1 Biting your lips triggers a rush of chemicals in your brain that reduce anxiety, stress and boost your mood.
2 If a girl frequently plays with her hair in front of you, chances are she likes you.
3 Toy Barbie’s full name is Barbara Millicent Roberts.
4 Scotland’s national animal is the unicorn.
5 Try to breathe and swallow at the same time. You can not.
6 It is also impossible to hum while holding your nose.
7 Australia has over 10,000 beaches. You can visit a new beach every day for over 27 years!
8 The human nose can detect around 1 trillion different odors.
9 Flushing is triggered by a surge of adrenaline in the body.
10 People can detect the feeling of fear in your eyes, but they need some corresponding action to confirm it.
11 Daytime naps improve memory and reduce the risk of heart disease.
12 Japan has over 50,000 people over the age of 100.
13 Hot water can freeze faster than cold water.
14 Your brain will perform better when you believe you slept well, even if you didn’t.
I thought it was interesting and filed it away for possible use later.
Dan went on to add;

This country really does need to institute a nap system. Now it’s for public health.

Nice detour, Boss.
50,000 people over the age of 100? That one got me most of all. We need to know what they’re doing, stat!

I just did that yesterday. Not sure if this post was the cause or not. Thanks, Chris.

This is the perfect kind of collaboration. How fun!
Did you try to hold your nose and hum? I was able to. Does that mean my humming is so bad it doesn’t qualify as music?
LikeLiked by 1 person
Not sure about the music but I couldn’t hum holding my nose.

It might be more throat than lips. Maybe it’s not technically humming. I know it sounds bad.

In theory the noise is supposed to come out your nose. Throat would produce something for sure. 😳

What an entertaining read this morning. Did you that… Pigs can’t look up in the sky and they can’t fly either.

Gee I did not know that. My, my such great information. I’ll remember that when I try to point out superman to a pig.

What a fun detour, John! You know I had to try to breathe and swallow. 🙂 And hold my nose and hum. Who knew? Great distraction post today!

Your friends have a wealth of trivia, some of which I knew and a lot I didn’t. You need to challenge them to a game of Trivial Pursuits, one of my favorites. I did try humming with my nose closed! Not…

This is a wonderful detour, John! Love it.
And, I learned today, during my drive in, that a 30-minute daily nap will not only help your heart, it also helps your brain, staving off Alzheimer’s.
Now, if I can only figure out how to incorporate that into my day….

Dammit! You really can’t do number six. Yes, OK, I tried. I’m not gonna try any others cause I will believe you. That was a marvellous detour!

John, thanks for the notariety.
I was amazed how many tried to hum 😀, that’s great.
Dan and I will try to keep up with the demand for cutting edge humor.
On the weapons side, you may have to brace your roof for the devise I have on order. More on that later.
So a BIG THANKS to everyone who enjoyed our humor. And a bigger thanks to you John for putting it out there.

Oh, I love reading this list of trivia. I actually sent a newsletter last week about fun facts too. So maybe me biting my lip when I’m anxious is my subconscious helping me lower my anxiety level.
