Today, we will check on the critters in our neighborhood to see how they are doing. We are catered by Nixta Taqueria, and our entertainment is The Troggs
Menu (click to enlarge)

Time to go

A Buck looks like he needs to train a member of the herd.

A doe and fawn crossing the road. (Don’t ask why. The chicken covered it before.)

Fawn in our Driveway. The spots have faded.

Joined by its Mama.

And an aunt and cousin.

Whoops, a few more.

A shot of the clan who visit us each day. One has already wandered off.

Asking what we are doing there with a hoof stomp.

Three does. One drinking rainwater off the manhole cover during the drought

One who still has spots.

A Texas Armadillo looking for breakfast.

An Axis Deer chillin’ in the neighborhood. He always keeps his spots.
Well, that’s the tour. I hope you enjoyed it. TimIt’s time have some food and listen to the Trogs. I hope you have a super week.

Must be fun to see deer walking around. Beats the squirrels we have here.

They are fun to see. Our squirrels are a pain as well. One tortures Twiggy almost daily.

I wish my neighborhood had that much wildlife. We’re too crowded and I think the autos have polished off the armadillos and most of the opossums.
LikeLiked by 1 person
That is unfortunate. We still have both. The autos don’t go very fast here. (residential area)

I love the animals in your neighbourhood. The Armadillo is fascinating! I enjoyed seeing the older version of the Troggs but had to watch them in their Carnaby Street striped suits as well. As I remember them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gSWInYFVksg

The Producer wanted me to run that video but I wanted a live version. Of course, she is right in the end. Thanks, Darlene. 😊

Over the years, we’ve had a few armadillos show up now and then, but honestly, NEVER a deer in any of the neighborhoods we’ve lived in. It’s hard to believe so many visit you daily. Lovely to see! And I’ve never even heard of an Axis deer, so now I have to look that one up. (We only have white-tailed deer and, farther south, the smaller Key deer.)
Fun post, John! And Wild “Thang” was a perfect choice. 😀 ❤

I believe the Axis deer are native to the Indian subcontinent. They were imported and this one escaped from an exotic farm near here. He has been in the neighborhood for years and seems to thrive.
LikeLiked by 2 people
Aha! That’s interesting, and while I’m glad he’s thriving, I’m also glad it doesn’t sound like he’s reproducing. We have such a problem with exotic escapees in Florida, especially in South Florida! They can displace our natives before you even realize it’s happening. But enjoying ONE could be fun, and he’s very handsome!
Thanks for the info, John! 😀 ❤

They don’t breed so it is a good thing.

I finally found a moment to look up the Axis deer (or chital) and, wow! I thought those antlers looked amazing in your photo, but the pics online are astounding. Guess that’s why they are hunted so avidly. At any rate I learned a good bit about an animal I’d never even heard of before. Thanks for that! 😀

They don’t breed wit the white tails so all is good.

Well, this herd has been here long before people so I think in some ways they do own the place. They act like it as well. Thanks, Darcy.

So wonderful having wildlife directly near the front door. This year here we missed most of the birds. In the past we had squirrels. But they shown up only one fall and didn’t be seen again. ;-/ Best wishes, Michael

Wow, John. That’s quite the group of deer visiting your place. Those axis deer have really cool antlers. I’ve never seen an armadillo, though we visited our daughter and son-in-law who used to live south of Dallas several times. Wild things do make my heart sing. ❤

I hope I don’t have nightmares after reading this. That many deer in the garden would make for former garden. Throw in an armadillo ! I am glad we don’t have them up north. Fortunately we planted a squirrel amusement device. It is otherwise know as a black walnut tree. How the squirrels are able to gnaw through one still amazes me. It takes a fully equipped and experienced human 5 to 10 minutes to break one open. While the squirrels know where the zipper is located. It is walnut season now. They rain down, squirrel assisted on our covered picnic area. The shelled walnuts would just hurt. The rejects hit the roof like hand grenades and bounce. They just might take you right out ! Such a majestic tree. NUTS !!!

Ha ha ha. We have pecan tress in the neighborhood and the effect is the same. I don’t know how they get through black walnuts either.

Our urban wildlife isn’t so wonderful over here, although we did see a skunk in our postage stamp of a back yard last week.
Oh, and a bunch of ants showed up!!
Is it still droughty where you are?

We had an inch of rain but we certainly need more so it is still a drought condition. We had some ants show up after the rain. They are the fire ant type which are bad news.

We have black street ants.
Well, there’s no mice this year. Once Rupert was gone, they were all gone. I think it was actually a Rupertina.
I missed her & worried for a couple of days, then I got over it.

I’ll pick up some medicine for him to help his joints on Thursday. I’ve got my own tests next 2 days.
He’s a senior cat (almost 15), with arthritis. He sure is having a hard time getting up on the bed & down from it. I’ve made him a step-up thing.
I feel very bonded with him now. We are both going through an odd time, together.
