Today, we are visiting the Travis County Emergency Services display. The purpose of the collection is to educate residents of the county on the services available. We are catered by Lynny’s of Austin. Our entertainment is The Ohio Players. It is a cloudy day, but the rain has stopped. We are early to the event, so most visitors have yet to arrive.
Menu
Sausage Biscuit – ham or veggie sausage sub available on request
Dana’s Biscuit – dark chocolate, toasted pecan, brown sugar
Toaster Pancakes – seasonal flavors, served with butter and syrup
Melon salad -melon, lemon vinaigrette, toasted pecan, pickled golden raisin
Deli Breakfast- everything biscuit, swiss cheese, sliced tomato, fried egg, and a Pickle Envy pickle spear

Ham Slam- ham & swiss melt on griddled sourdough, with housemade chipotles and a fried egg

Let’s get going

This is outstanding, John. I was enjoying the Deli Breakfast and being educated by your first responders, when lo and behold, there was a BBQ, ice cream and a bookmobile. You care about my diet, do you?

I do care. Need you to keep your energy up.

Uh oh, sounds ominous…what else do you have planned for me? or do I have to wait and see?

I think wait and see might be the best choice.

Very cool black fire truck. Although, I’d think it would be harder to see at night. Always they were red or yellow to make them more visible.

hat area is pretty rural so I don’t think there are too many cars that need to see it.

I think this type of community event is such a good idea. I’d never heard of a multi-patient ambulance.

It is like a hospital in there. For big disasters.

That’s some serious equipment. Funny you didn’t mention the little boy’s mother. She seems to make herself known in the picture, too.

Bucket crane for rescuing kitties and Dan Antion…🤣 Give me another Dana’s biscuit and a black coffee and I’d be climbing that crane!
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a car accident simulator before. Most interesting.

Great community event and a way to connect with the public – food and a bounce house are a great addition. I am going easy today and trying the melon salad.

I bet this event was very popular. Who wouldn’t want to see those vehicles up close, and get ice cream and books on the side? Thanks for the tour, John.

Thanks for the tour, John. It’s good PR for emergency services to do displays like this on a regular basis. Besides introducing themselves to new residents, they need to remind long-timers of the new equipment they’ve been paying for, ha!

So true, Debby. I think it helps the community to know what is available when needed.

What a wonderful community event. It looks like it will be both fun and informative.
BTW, I got a chuckle out of the Dan Antion comment, LOL.
And how cool they have a bookmobile!

That bookmobile shows up at every event. Thanks for the visit, Mae.

Blimey who knew how much can go wrong in Lakeside; there was me thinking it was a picturesque and rural little space of peace and equilibrium. Or maybe I’ve read too many of your books, John and assumed they’re all based around you…

Wow, this is an amazing event, John. I’ve never seen a black fire truck, but the one in your photo looks pretty impressive. We’re pretty close to the main road and often hear the fire trucks and police go by. Great show of force!

It’s really good for people to view their first responders. My son’s fire station has an open house every October, with some real educational procedure demonstrations. That multi-patient ambulance is impressive!

I agree. The more eduction there is about safety the better. You must be proud of your son. I can’t think of a more productive job than first responder.

I think this is a great idea, John. It’s good to know what these brave and selfless people are capable of doing. I’m glad they have the bucket truck (I hope they have my address). Actually, I think if I get to the point of needing this, I might be better off staying where I would be than being brought down to my wife.
I’ll have a Sausage Biscuit – no need to substitute the veggie version.
