Today, we are going to the Lakeway Greenbelt to watch the start of the 5K Wilderness Run/Walk sponsored by Friends of the Park. This run happens every year to raise awareness of the volunteering opportunity with Friends of the Park. This non-profit organization helps maintain Lakeway Parks and ensures their preservation for the future.
We are catered by Cypress Grill in Austin. Our entertainment is Chicago

Let’s go.
There is a sign for the event.
Entering the Greenbelt, we run into these thoughtful chess players.
There’s the registration tent.
T-shirts, of course.
Oranges and bananas for the athletes.
Coffee and donuts for the rest of us.
Bronze elk family in the park.
A heron looking over Hurst Creek.
The starting point.
A slight warming up before the race.
Ready to go.
Friends of the Park chairperson gives the go signal.
And we are off. Well, not we as in you and I. We have food to eat.
The runners pass the heron on the way to 5K.
Now that the runners and walkers have departed, let’s have some food and enjoy the music.
What a wonderful event? Where were Twiggy and her friend? I am sure the audience would have applauded them. The bronze statues are so amazing! Best wishes, Michael
Thanks for telling the name of Twiggy’s new friend. Sorry, i had overread it. What a wonderful name she has. Isn’t Twiggy not envy? 😉 Best wishes, Michael
I love the statue of the chess players – whimsical and fun! I probably would try the 5k – but at a walk and I might not finish it! As for eats, anything menu item with the words crawfish etouffee in it is for me.
What a terrific way for the community to get together and spruce things up (btw, they’ve done nicely to date it appears-love the artwork). Your ‘egg-cellent’ brunch menu for all tour as well as the snacks for the walkers/runners are terrific, too.
Great fun, John!!! I’d like the french toast please … oh wait … maybe that is too much with the donuts … just a donut then. Love the statues, especially the deer and the chess players. Must be warm down there, for I notice everyone is wearing shorts!
It took me a while to move past the menu. LOL! I got hung up on the french toast. I haven’t had it for so long because it’s a rare occasion where one can find gluten free french toast.

You live in a wonderful hood, John.
Your many posted excursions and events at the park are a testimony.
It’s great to see folks coming out in support.
Perfect song!

Looks like a perfect day for the run. The winds we had here over the weekend might have blown some runners off the trail, lol.

We has the same thing, Teri. I was riding my bike and almost lost it in a cross wind.

That’s exactly what people on a wilderness run need for fuel: DOUGHNUTS!!!!
