Views of the Neighborhood – Deer and Other Stuff
The first is one of the sculptures in Lakeway fully operational with water.
Dad and lad with sister.
The mailbox topper is in the foreground with a sightline to another sculpture in the background.
The family enjoying carrot treats.
Our old friend, the Armadillo, with flag.
Dad is babysitting.
Cow and pig Talavera.
Dad and lad in another venue.
Dachshund on a mail tower.
That is the tour. Now, it’s time to relax and enjoy the food and entertainment. I hope you have a super week.

It’s always nice to see wildlife living peacefully alongside the human population.

They do that for sure. I did have a scare yesterday. A fawn ran right in front of my car. Lucky I had super brakes.

Love the deer photos, John. If you hadn’t added “with sister,” I might have missed the little one in the background of dad and lad. I had to laugh at the broken office chair. I’m trying to imagine how that happens.
I’d like a sample portion of fried mozzarella, lobster, shrimp, with some of that Caribbean aioli, and a few Rhode Island fritters on the side (and some fries if that’s OK). This is what happens when I read about food before breakfast.

I enjoyed seeing the photos of the deer. Do they eat people’s landscaping (shrubs and flowers and such)?
LikeLiked by 2 people
Most folks understand that they are limited to deer resistant plants. The deer love Bradford Pear buds and will eat them off the ground or on lower branches. It doesn’t seem to bother the trees too much. They also eat various grasses so some folks get the benefit of regular lawn mowing. All in all after living together for 60 years the deer and people seem to get along. We have one couple who constantly curse the deer and keep very tasty plants under netting. They claim they never knew about the deer when they moved in. They are the laughing stock of the neighborhood.

Every time I get irked at the deer eating my hostas and hydrangeas, I can’t get angry at them. The houses in my neighborhood, including mine, were built in their habitat.

So true. They were here first. 😁

My favorite is the sculpture of the heron fountain, although it’s impossible not to enjoy the cacti, armadillo, and flag combo. I’ve never seen Talvera pigs: cool!

Thank you, Linda. Those pigs are new so I just had to take a photo.

I like the entire menu, but I can’t pass up on the lobster!!
Having deer roam around is outstanding, wish we’d have some, but then again, they’d just get run over with the traffic!
Great post, John.

Great sculptures and mailbox decorations in the neighborhood, John. Seeing a buck babysitting is really a surprise to me. In all the times I’ve watched deer, I’ve never seen a buck with his offspring.

It is pretty rare. While the bucks have their velvet they are pretty calm. Thanks, Tim.

The bucks tore up trees I’d planted cleaning the velvet from their antlers.

We lost a Manzanita tree in California to buck rubs when we lived there.

Deer and art… Perhaps deer ARE art… the office furniture? Well, even the deer don’t seem to be near…

You wonder how hard that stuff was ridden. Thanks, Annette.

The doxie on top of the mailbox is so cute. I wonder if the mailman ever tries to pet it before….**oh, it’s fake!**😳

I always about the match up with Travolta and John. I guess I was jealous.

I love the deer and that partially hidden armadillo! Nine banded armadillos give birth to identical quadruplets. I had one in a pickle jar in my lab for many years. Clam fritters please!

Sounds like the armadillo was a conversation piece.

It was. That’s how I learned about the quadruplets!

Point Judith calimari, please. I’ve actually fished by Pt. Judith. Loved the heron fountain, but all the toppers are nice. And ‘Summer Nights’, oh, my, what a classic. Travolta was excellent in that role snd Saturday Night Fever. I may have to rewatch that flic. Have a great Sunday, John.

A re-watch might be in order for me as well. Thanks, Steve. What’s the odds that you fished a place mentioned in my post? 😁

Growing up in nearby Massachusetts, Rhode Island was one of our favorite spots to fish for striped bass, bluefish, mackeral, flounder and mosquitoes. As for odds, as I tell my wife, affectionately (although she doesn’t think so), the longer we’re together, or know each other, not only do we begin to think alike, but we’re also starting to look alike…🙀🍺🥴

The other half doesn’t like to hear that you are beginning to look alike. That would mean you get better looking and she worse. 😁

That is one noble-looking weenie-dog! Of course, I love the Texas-themed mailbox topper, and the deer look like they might sit still to be petted. No? Well, they’re at least calm … until something spooks them.

They are not pettable but one eats carrots out of The Producer’s hand.

They don’t. They would bark the deer to St Louis if they saw that action.

Your shot of the sculpture within a sculpture is very neat!
You live is a fab hood. Do you ever take T&T out with you on you sojourns? They’d love the deer.
Okay, going to go and sew!

Twiggy and Tempeste go out each day. They don’t usually go with me on photo missions since holding the phone steady and leash management are mutually exclusive. OX OX OX

Such a wonderfully entertaining tour. The deer certainly do look very healthy and vital. And of course the fawns are adorably cute.

The deer are very healthy. Their coats are very shiny and they are nice and plump. We had a large crop of fawns this year which is usually a signal of a healthy herd. They are very cute. Thanks, Monika.
