“Thanks, I think. You know this bed is not big enough for the cone and me.”
“Mom brought you a bigger bed. How does that feel?”
“Oh, much better. I really need to take a nap.”
“Yes, you need to get some rest. Trust me, you will feel better tomorrow.”
“The nose thing I get, but what is a spay anyway?”
“We’ll talk later. But for now, know that you’ll be glad you have it. I know I am.”

Since her nose is sensitive she may have to wear it for two weeks. We are appealing to the Supreme Court.

Yah, that ‘spay thing’ is something to be thankful for. Was this a common surgery for the type of dog?

Since Tempeste is a rescue from a backyard breeder situation some of the worse traits of Frenchies have been passed on. The restricted nasal passage and elongated pallet are two such traits. Tempest has both and will need another surgery for the pallet. We didn’t feel our current vet had enough experience on the pallet so we are going to a specialist for that. This is the sad part of breeders who are not professional. Thanks, Steve.

Poor little puppy. Surgery is rough and then you have to walk around like an upside down lamp. We should use cones people though, especially with stitching. Seen too many scratch at and pop them.

I think they know something has happened. Dogs are very adaptable and tend to go with the flow if the medication is properly administrated.

She is on a “forced” rest program. Nothing off leash and no ruckus with Twiggy. This will help her recover.

I think it’s the right thing to do, having her stenotic nares taken care of when she’s spayed. The cone will keep her from breaking open her nares, letting them heal completely from the surgery.

Spaying is good and necessary, but I’m so sorry to hear that Tempeste needed nose surgery and will need more surgery later. It’s so good of you and the Producer to rescue these pups and make their lives so much better. xo

Oh, the dreaded cone. Good way for Nurse Twiggy to buy time about the spay thing.
When one of my cats had to wear that cone after surgery, she cracked me up the way she would center that cone around her food bowl to eat. If it was the Cat Cone Olympics, I would have given her a 10. I hope the time flies by for little Tempeste.

She is allowed to eat with it off. We have a playpen that keeps her confined and she eats in there.

The better Tempeste feels, the more impatient to dump the cone she’ll become — which will require even more patience from her humans!

Oh poor Tempeste. But a good thing to have done early. After some rest and some interaction with Twiggy – around the cone – she’ll feel better. How long does she have to wear it?
I didn’t know that the nares could be a problem. We had to deal with eyelids being turned in and irritating the eye.

She has to wear it for 14 days. We do take it off for meals and when she is on leash in the yard so she does get a break. The turned in eyelashes are a problem for sure.

What I truly love about this, is how Twiggy is really listening. The photos are great.
I know what spay is…yeah, I’ll bet, but the other thing. How she she didn’t notice her sister even had a problem that tells me, Tempeste is no complainer. The French are tough alright. Next they’ll be singing La Marseillaise. 🙂

I think Monk kept the Cone-of-Shame on for about 30 seconds after his neutering surgery. I hope Tempeste will be a better, more cooperative patient. I’m sorry to hear she had to have the nose surgery, too, but I suppose it’s better to get all of it done at one time. Tell Twiggy she’s being a good Big Sis, and tell Tempeste to hang in there and mend!

we recently had our little guy neutered. He didn’t enjoy it at all. He had a couple of down days but now he’s good as ever.

There is a genetic trait that is passed on. Legitimate breeders won’t breed a dog that has the trait. Puppy mills could care less.Tempeste’s mom was rescued from a puppy mill and so Tempeste has the trait. There are quite a few Frenchies with the trait as well

I HATE THE CONE! Just sayin’. I always feel so so badly for a dog who has to wear a cone. They walk around like they’re wearing a ‘cone of shame.’ But I get why it’s needed. I even understand a spay, but I can’t wait to hear how Twiggy explains it to Tempeste. 🙂

The cone is for 14 days. We take it off so she can eat and drink. She is restricted to backyard walks on leash only so we take it off then too. 😁

Yes… I had a bad experience 2 weeks ago when I went to a shelter looking for a 4 – 7 year old cat.
I’ll spare you the grinding tale (6 hr. ordeal) , but I left with tears in my eyes, couldn’t see properly, tripped on a chunk of sticking up sidewalk, fell, scab on my knee is finally getting smaller, sprained my wrist (almost better), and wrenched my back out.
I’m never going back. I still want a cat.
