Views of the Neighborhood – Lakeway – Pops With Cops

Today, we are going to visit Rough Hollow, a neighborhood in Lakeway. It is at the Rough Hollow Visitors Center, where the Lakeway Police Department is hosting an event titled Pops with Cops. No, it isn’t a cocktail hour but frozen treats to help stave off the effects of the heat. We are catered by Eberly of Austin, and our entertainment is Jan and Dean.

Menu

HALIBUT pomme purée, pepper relish, watercress salad

SALMON crispy rice cake, romanesco, citrus, chive beurre blanc, trout roe

EGGPLANT MILANESE basil purée, toasted almonds, charred zucchini & tomato salad

HALF CHICKEN Parisian gnocchi, caper-brown butter jus, arugula

SHORT RIB ‘nduja collard greens, grilled corn, radish, chimichurri

PORK CHOP confit potatoes, spinach mustard seed-bacon glaze

TEXAS WAGYU STRIP sautéed kale, confit garlic, bordelaise

So let’s go.

A poster announcing the event.

The Rough Hollow Welcome Center.

Another photo of the center with Police cars in attendance.

Motor cycle officers getting ready.

A nice selection of frosty treats.

Lakeway City Councilman Kent O’Brian taking a selfie with the officers

I think it turned out very well.

I thought I would share some more photos of the Rough Hollow Center, including the splash pad.

Kids play area.

The swimming pool. In addition, the center has a complete workout facility and tennis court.

I have a disclaimer here. There were other photo opportunities of officers with kids, but my policy is to avoid taking photos of children for this blog. Everyone had a great time.

So let’s enjoy the food and music. I hope you have a great week.

I understand you not photographing the children. Sometimes it’s hard to know what to do around kids these days. A great day with the PD though!!

I agree, Tim. I’m reminded what one of my Russian followers wrote the last time I featured the Lakeway police. They wouldn’t even consider going near the police let alone socialize.

I wish splash pads had been around when I was a kid. They always look like great fun. This is a great example of community outreach.

It is a good example, Linda. I remember making our own splash pad in the early 50s with a hose and sprinkler on the driveway. 😁

THIS is the best way to tie to cops to the community. They clearly like their jobs and I hope the community appreciates them!

Had salmon lat night so maybe the eggplant?

    Ear scritches to the girls.

1 pork chop dinner, please, and a shady spot to sit. Who doesn’t love the cops? And ‘cops with pops’ makes it even easier to love ‘em. Perfect song for the story. Well done, John.

Thank you, Steve. There is a spot right over there under the canopy that is extended from the bus. It is right next to the bar.

I like those coverings over the playground equipment to keep hot metal from burning kids’ hands. And the splash pool and swimming pool look like great places to cool off during a hot Texas summer. Kudos to the cops for coming up with a good idea for bonding with the community!

After that report I was craving one as well. Never did get one. Since I have been banned from shopping at the food store, I think I will put in a request for a box. We’ll see how it goes.
