I opened the book My GRL randomly to page 191 and, without looking, pointed to the page. The word closest to my finger is “brushed.”
Brushed by John W. Howell © 2024
“So, how long did that take?”
“It seemed like ten days, but it was only two. He is now fully brushed.”
“That sounds like a lot of time.”
“That horse is a monster.”
“Yeah, I know. I still can’t figure out why you felt the need to brush him.”
“You know all that dander and dust that builds up under those hairs.”
“Yeah, I’ve seen a little of that.”
“All that crap just got to me one day.”
“I still don’t get the point.”
“I am real tired of drilling through all that just to have lunch.”
“Why not just fly to a cleaner horse?”
“Cause those Clydesdales are real tasty. There’s nothing like them.”
“Funny. I never tried one.”
“You should. This one’s clean enough.”
“Well, thanks for the invite. How about after lunch, we fly over and go for a stroll in the dung pile.”
“You’re on.”

Two days for a mosquito or fly to clean a Clydesdale is impressive.

2,000 lbs of horse under all that dust. I’d say it’s worth it.

Seems like it. Of course I’m not a horse fly so I can’t tell. Thanks, Dan

Brushing a horse to make an easier meal, not to make it look or feel better?

Nope. Horse fly’s don’t care about how their meal looks.

ha! I had to reread that line “Why not just fly to a cleaner horse?” 🤣 You don’t mind if I skip lunch, do you?

Oh yum! But it did recall my days of cleaning my daughter’s horse and fighting for time with the flies!

Brushing a Leonberger is almost like brushing a horse. Well, actually, I’ve never brushed a horse so I don’t know that.

I think you are right of course I never brushed a Leonberger but have horses.

I guess flies gotta eat, too, huh? But I rather hate thinking about them munching on a Clydesdale. Still, nicely penned, John!

Snort! Too funny. Horse flies are the bane of all barns. Nasty creatures.

Good one, John. Flies are gross, but Bond eats them if they get in the house, lol.

Good for him. Tempeste snaps at them but hasn’t caught one yet. Twiggy runs away.

This made me think of our dog who I bathed right before we left on our trip to South Dakota to visit our grandson. The dogsitter just sent us a picture today of Lulu rolling in dog doo doo. So glad I took the time to bathe her.

Funny thing: When I opened your post I was listening to a song by The Smiths. The refrain goes like that:
“I started something
I forced you to a zone
And you were clearly never meant to go
Hair Brushed and parted
Typical me, typical me, typical me
I started something and now I’m not too sure”

John, I love it when you do these prompts. Ha! This one is a riot. I’ve read (and written) stories from various points of view — creatures and even objects, but I had not seen one from the POV of a fly. LOL. Well done. Hugs.
