Today, we are going to explore the neighborhood and check out what some consider trash. Is there treasure? You can decide. We are catered by Arlo Grey of Austin. Or entertainment is Mary Heather Hickman.
Menu

Good looking pool float chairs.

Aw, come on. A perfectly good chair,

Baby seat looks new.

A lounge chair. You do have to wonder what’s under the cover.

This looks like it will still work.

Okay a mattress might not be good used.

Kitchen sink.

An attic pull-down stairway. This might be trash.

Okay, more trash.

Nothing wrong with that dolly that a bit of paint and fresh rope couldn’t cure.

Just needs to stand up and a game of horse is instant.

Plastic wrap headboard. Just waiting for a bed.
Time now to enjoy the food and music. I hope you have a great week.

Hello John! What an inspiring menu. I am getting hungry asap. Seeing the photos, I had thought that Lakeway would have the annual day of seating! 😉 But waste must be disposed of. Please enjoy your weekend! Best wishes, Michael

When I tore our attic stairs out, John, I used a dolly like that to wheel them into the garage. They now hang in my shop and provide access to the storage about the garage.
That pork chop sounds good, but maybe a little too much. I’ll go with the burger, and yes to the bacon.

I can’t imagine a pork chop being too much but the burger is good too.

That’s a good point, John. I had just gotten up when I first looked at the menu.

I understand. Since I do the menu the day before everything looks good. 😁

I saw a number of things our local scavenger would immediately snatch up. He goes by about 3-4x a week.
I’ll grab that Ranch Ribeye – extremely raw please.

Dear John
Funny, not only we but a lot of our neighbours cleared out their houses just now and so our lanes show trash and goodies. We have hardly any people who will take those pre-loved stuff. So all goes to the local recycling centre and they try to sell stuff for a very low price but not that successfully.
Have a happy week

We have a city wide garage sale which draws folks from many miles. When the stuff is broken though it is usually a lost cause. Thanks F4oC

Yet another reminder that I need to go through our extra “stuff” and take what’s usable to Goodwill.

I know around here, people put stuff like this out because another person will usually come by to claim it. Not sure if that’s universal though.

I think it is.

That happens a lot, people wanting to get rid of things, setting them out at the curb on trash day. A lot of times they’re not real trash, the people have upgraded, or their tastes have changed.

I certainly get that. The lawnmower looked like it was in perfect condition

Yes it does. If we are giving something away like that, I’ll hang a sign on it that says “Free.”

The tell tale sign was parts sitting on the catcher.

I’ve always thought it would be cool to have stairs like that in the garage to be able to store stuff up in the rafters and get to it easily with stairs like those.
There’s a lot of stuff I thought would be good to FreeCycle. You know, ” One person’s junk is another’s treasure.” 😊

Free cycle is a great idea. Thanks, Deborah.

Once a month a different part of town gets the Mayor’s cleanup. Separate tires and paint cans but put out all your junk and the city will pick it up. It is kind of funny that as it gets dark, the slow headlights come down the street as people canvass the area looking for treasures on the curbside.
I have two chairs to go. Trash.

I see you those two chairs and raise you a couch.

haha! I think I see headlights….and a new living room suite. 😆

That headboard should talk to the mattress down the street. Maybe they can form a gang. This is funny, because I just hacked out a micro fiction for Halloween based upon what a neighbor put out. I get the same vibe from one of your pictures, but wont say which here. Don’t want to spoil my creepy story.

We’ve been clearing out my in-laws house, sigh. We’ve been leaving things by garbage bins hoping others will get use out of them. (other things have gone straight into the bin) I love Mary Heather’s boots!

I agree great boots, Darlene. Cleaning out is a thank less chore.

where I live anything put to the curb is gone in before the day ends and probably sold at a yard sale for parts. The menu is mouthwatering! Thanks for the tour , there’s certainly some interesting items. Have a great day. 🍁🍂

Hi John, in SA, all of these things would be taken by street people. They would sell them or recycle them.
LikeLiked by 1 person
I’m wondering if we have the same thing here. Haven’t seen evidence of folks picking up stuff though.

Perhaps the poverty levels aren’t as high in your area. Here, there are street people everywhere now as our economy is in an appalling state.

I live in an area with little poverty although Austin has 12% below the poverty level (My town is 1.3%)

That is good to know, John. Poverty and beggars can exhaust you.

Halibut, please! So many good things left out – is there not a place where they could be donated?
LikeLiked by 1 person
There are plenty of places but it takes energy to go there.

That’s the problem – people want to trash it and forget it. We have a really good place here run by an organization called TROSA, which is a business where addicts who are recovering their lives work. The people we’ve met dealing with TROSA are super, and we want to take our things there.

At least all this stuff wasn’t at the same house!! Nice to spread the “treasures” around a bit, right?

If it were at the same house, that would be a laugh out loud moment. Thanks, Debbie.

Interesting what people think of as trash. I’m not sure if this is still the case, but when my kids were growing up, you couldn’t donate car seats – no one would take them. Something about the plastic degrading over time and not performing…there should be a way to repurpose them.
LikeLiked by 1 person
I’m not sure either. When my kids were little I don’t think car seats were invented yet.

The trash in our neighborhood doesn’t resemble the trash in yours. The scraps beside the trash cans aren’t worth a pause. 😄 Thanks for the journey, John. Have a great week.

I have a friend who was trying to deep clean his house and brought some of his things outside. Someone driving by stopped and started loading his stuff in their truck because they thought it was free.

We have this sort of decorating in my neighborhood also. I don’t know if someone takes the freebies or they are finally hauled away.

I wish we had such clean trash around here.
Still… that mattress would have gone in minutes, bed bugs and all.
Lawn mower…watch out for your hands as you place it by the curb!
Floating pool thingys – waiting for the trash collectors to come by. No pools in this hood.
Although there was a sidewalk stabbing last week, just 2 doors down from me.
Might have been a small pool there. The guy lived. (not kidding)
Sigh!
Still, I love living here. Go figure?
