Yes, the headline says it all. We are headed to the Lakeway Municipal Court, where they are holding an open house. No, you don’t need a speeding ticket to attend. We are catered by Launderette of Austin, and our entertainment is The Bobby Fuller Four.
Menu
ASPARAGUS BENNY – sourdough English muffin, poached eggs, pancetta, truffle hollandaise
PORK SHOULDER HASH – potato, brussels sprouts, sunny eggs, salsa verde
THE AMERICANA – sunny eggs, oyster mushroom, roasted tomato, bacon, toast
CHICKEN PAILLARD – coriander rub, escarole, frisée, tender kale, seared apple, candied walnuts, rosemary pomegranate vinaigrette
FRIED CHICKEN SAMMIE – coriander poblano slaw, pickles, challah
PLANCHA BURGER -American cheese, special sauce, pickles, challah

I commend Lakeway for keeping the families and kids involved.
But when I first heard who was catering, I thought I had to bring my dirty clothes with me!

Ooh, I hope that driving distraction simulator works to keep teens more focused on the road. Just the old black and white movie I had in Driver’s Ed kept me off the freeway for nearly a decade I was terrified of the freeway after watching it. I think it was called Red Asphalt.

That’s the whole idea. They throw distractions and nine times out of ten the kid has an accident. Thanks, Deborah.

I had the pleasure of being called to municipal court in a very local, very small town nearby — many years ago. I’d been caught rolling through a stop sign, or so the nice patrolman said. Opinions differed. Anyway: court was held in a rickety old building on stilts, with no AC. There were folding chairs, and circulating fans whose blades looked like palm leaves. The judge wore a black and white Hawaiian print shirt, baggies, and flip-flops, and I got out with only $10 in court costs to pay. It was memorable.

You describe it very well, Linda. Must have made an impression.

Learning about one’s local court is good, and Lakeway has made it even better. The Teen Court is fascinating to me, and the result of the accused doing community service instead of paying a fine is positive. Thanks for sharing this, John.

The outreach activities of your community are awesome – I really like the idea of the teen court. Great way to introduce them to the legal system. Did you try the driving simulator?
I’ll have that biscuit with everything this morning!

I think so too, Robbie. The teen court in some respects has the potential to teach lessons. Community service can be a lot more difficult than simply paying a fine.

I agree, community service is a good way of teaching a lesson without causing lasting damage to a young person’s life.

Wow, love that distracted driver simulator! Hope it helps. We should make everyone renewing their driver’s license to take that in Colorado. Talk about distracted drivers! What a cool tool. Almost as cool as the teen court. Very innovative! Bravo Lakeway.

Neat post. You know, Bobby Fuller may have been murdered. Accident, suicide or murder?
So, what community service did they sentence you to?
Oh…not a teen? Well…still, you deserve sentencing! After all you are a writer.
