Views of the Neighborhood – I Got Nothin’

There are times in life when you have to admit that what you have planned just didn’t work out. This is one of those times. An exhibit at the library titled Women in Photography curated by the organization Women in Visual Art (WIVA) opened on March 1. (Yesterday) I had planned to use this event for the Views of the Neighborhood today. The photographs are quite nice but are displayed in a room with many windows. The photos are behind glass and taking clear shots is nearly impossible. I tried using editing techniques to filter out the interference but was unsuccessful. After taking the photos and attempting to edit them, I have run out of time. So what we are going to do is get on the bus and eat and drink like sloths.

We are catered by Moonshine of Austin and our entertainment is Whitney Houston.

I spent way too much time yesterday trying to photograph a certain buttercup that has very shiny petals. The reflections were so hard to deal with, I’m going to wait for a cloudy day to make another run at them.

I keep vowing to buy a screen to block the reflections but never get around to it. Thanks, Linda.

It was a shame. I took over thirty photos and none were worth saving. (Well maybe one or two but not enough for a feature.) Thanks, Darlene. 😊

Too bad, but the alternative is fine. The Southern Sloth will have the creole shrimp and grits with a bourbon slush!

I wish they would put some vegetarian items on the menu because me drinking like a sloth would not be a pretty sight! 😂🦥

That’s so frustrating! A polarizer would help block the reflections, but you’d lose a stop of light so you need a fast lens.

I’m glad you showed up with the bus anyway. Let’s the slothing begin! 😊

I think I will investigate a polarizer. Why folks use glass enclosures, I don’t know

That’s too back that you couldn’t get good photos of the photography, John. That seems almost too odd to write. But being a sloth of the bus with that menu wasn’t bad at all. 😀

I’ll have the shrimp and grits and bring a cabernet to go with it. I know most folks would say shrimp should go with a white wine, but I drink what I like.

Ahhh, John, I totally understand. Trying to take images of photographs behind glass is next to impossible-you have my sympathy but appreciate your efforts….nom, nom, chew, crunch, smack…oops excuse my manners.

How unfortunate. Thank you for trying, John! That is something I would have enjoyed seeing.

If you go back there for another show, take a big black umbrella. Prop it on your shoulder, if you don’t have someone to hold it for you.

Stand close to the pic. It should block out light.

Of course I haven’t seen the room. If the light floods from 2 angles, you would need 2 umbrellas.

For that room, I would need a three-sided box. I’m not going back there again. There is an art show this weekend so I will cover that. Thaks for the help.
