Today, we are going to cruise the neighborhood and see what unique Halloween decorations are up. We are catered by Lenoir of Austin, and our entertainment is provided by Warren Zevon.
Menu
fried blue corn and pecan hushpuppies – sweet potato mole, creme fraiche
crab fingers – curry leaf leche de tigre, smoked chili oil
big tree oysters – chili mignonette, pickled shallots, chive
bulgogi lamb tartare – apple kimchi, rice cracker, scallion
honeycrisp apple salad – pecan miso butter, orange wine vinaigrette
house made pullman bread – fermented pepper pimento cheese
street corn panisse – black lime tajín, garlic aioli, cotija
jerk cabbage – ginger coconut soubise, creamer pea conserva, poha
peeler wagyu flat iron – koji parmesan butter, gremolata, hot peppers
I know it looks scary, but it will get us there.
Welcome to the neighborhood from a friendly witch
Whew. A not so welcome from a ghoul
Happy Ghosts and skellies.
Big ole spider ridden by its last meal.
Almost headless teamster.
A gaggle of ghostly characters.
More mayhem.
A large happy skeleton.
A haunting display in front of the Mary Kay Ash (the founder of Mary Kay Cosmetics) original house in Lakeway.
A spider that goes with the decor.
A happy spider with eyes for you.
A happy dog skeleton and Haunted Mansion blowup.
An amazing display too big for just one photo. Two more to follow.
The second.
The third.
Well, there you have it. There are many more, but it is time to eat and enjoy the music. I hope you have a Happy Halloween and a terrific week.
Dear John
Siri and Selma love these Halloween decorations. It’s great! Unfortunately, Halloween is not that important here. Partly that is because we have nearly no children living in our village.
When I lived in Germany and Sweden, I was unaware of Halloween.
Happy Halloween

Amazing displays, John. Where do they store this stuff?
I think it’s unfair that you have varieties of hushpuppies, and I can’t find one restaurant that makes a decent basic hushpuppy. Accordingly, fried blue corn and pecan hushpuppies for me.
In Texas, as we discussed, the garage is for junk, not cars. So I imagine that is where they store this stuff. The last house keeps all but the inflatables out all year.
Lakeway has gone ‘all-out’ for Halloween this year!! Great job! The witch and almost headless teamster are my favorites – that is, if I can’t take the bus!!
Have a great day, John.
I love riding around looking at Halloween decorations–and wow, do you have ’em! That is quite the house for Mary Kay Cosmetics. Is the spider in the web the back of the house? Darn, she sold a lot of mascara! 😂
I thought of you yesterday when I was reading news online. Some woman rescued a kitten. Did not realize it was a puma. Twiggy’s puma stance immediately came to mind. 🤣
Thank you for taking us through your fun and festive neighborhood! Y’all know how to do it up! 🎃🍬👻That scary bus has been in a few apocalyptic movie scenes. 😆
Great decorations all, John. The neighborhood certainly rises to the occasion for Halloween. Nice to enjoy these sights with a little Zevon…and some pecan hushpuppies.
Lakeway folks go all out with their Halloween decorations, don’t they? I kind of like the mailbox spider with the fuzzy feet, but I’d really like a tour of Mary Kay’s house!
Quite a collection! Spiders seem to be growing in popularity. My favorite is the first witch. As someone else said, I would like a tour of Mary Kay’s house. She was big back in her day and those pink cars were easy to spot. A fine Halloween tour! I wasn’t sure the bus would make it though.
Even before I read the comments, I recognized that Texas architecture. My husband’s siblings and their children all lived there until recently. Now some of them are in various states and even Europe. Love the ghouls. Your menu is a tad spicy for me. Loved the ride. Did you ever feature it as your Uber one Saturday? Hope it’s got your voodoo rangers. How do the girls like it?
Your neighborhood really goes all out. There was one house in Boothbay Harbor , Maine, that had maybe a dozen skeletons crawling up the side of the house, hanging off the roof, etc. Pretty scary!
You certainly have some great Halloween decorations in your neighborhood. However, mist spiders have eight eyes not two. The Halloween decorations in my neighborhood have the same problem.
You went ALL out with this Halloween post, Boss. From the bus to all the spooky lawn decorations . . of which it was impossible for me to pick a favorite. Even though I really really dig that old coach.
PS- Imma take a double order of the hush puppies, they sound amazing.
What a fabulous display, John! We don’t get many Halloween decorations here, in Barcelona, especially in the city (some stores and shops, but not regular apartments or houses), so it’s great to see those. Many thanks!
Your community goes all out for Halloween. I love the photos, especially the wagon. The house that has three photos of decorations – I can’t imagine putting it all away after Halloween.
Fantastic decorations, John, your neighbourhood really knows how to celebrate 😃

We always have deer with spider webs in their antlers. I’m sure a couple have taken out an inflatable or two.
