Views of the Neighborhood – Deer Check

With so little going on around town, I thought we would take a moment to check out the deer. We are catered by Le Calamar of Austin. Our entertainment is Steve Martin, Jackson Browne, and Alison Brown

Let’s get going.
There they are approaching the carrot handout spot at my house.
Gotta be careful when the miser is getting on his bike.
“Okay, Bud. There is nothing to see here. You can take that bike and underlay burro.”
“Now that he’s gone, we can eat in peace. Come on, ladies. It’s safe.”
The first brave doe.
The rest of the ladies enjoy their carrots.
A different group in the sun.
This year’s fawn.
Looks like he wants me to move on, too.
The deer seem happy and healthy, so it is time for food and music. I hope you have a delightful week.

      1. Wow! We sure don’t see that here. For a while, in back of our house were a lot of trees, and I saw a huge buck at our fence, sleeping all day. The new owner of the property cut all the trees down, though.

  1. They’re so pretty … and attentive. Just look at those soulful eyes! Thank you, John, for giving them a safe place to feed. How do Twiggy and Tempeste stand the idea of them out there? Poor Monk would be beside himself!

  2. I dig how they have the run of the neighborhood. I know I’ve said it before but hey, around here, the poor things really don’t have that freedom. I remember running into a family of them last year during a run and was like WOW!, because that really is not the usual.

    Great video!

  3. Lovely, John. When we lived in Branson, we’d often have deer in our yard. They are such beautiful animals. Now we enjoy the Pronghorn — but they don’t visit humans. They roam the pastures. 😊

  4. Your deer make me happy, John.

They are so beautiful, and they were there first. It’s heart warming to see the deer living in harmony with humans.

    I’ve got squirrels!!!

  5. You have a lot of white tailed deer in your neighborhood. Those are great photos. Our oldest son and his wife live in Baltimore and they also have a lot of deer in their neighborhood. We saw some the last times we were there. Here in Dallas we have a lot of coyotes.

Since we humans started dominating the world the wild animal biomass shrunk by 85% and domesticated animals replaced and increased that biomass. However, there are some exeptions. Some wild animals became more common, coyotes, white tailed deer, moose, seagulls (and rats).
