“Hey, Tempeste. Does it seem warm in here?”
“Now that you mention it, yes, it does feel warm.”

“I wonder what’s going on?”
“Maybe Dad forgot to turn on the A/C.”

“Hey, Dad. Did you forget the A/C?”
“No, Twiggy. In fact, it isn’t working.”

“How can that be? It’s brand new.”
“I wish I could tell you. I have a call into the company.”

Tempeste, it looks like we are in for some discomfort.”
“Yeah, I heard. How hot is it?”

Hot enough to convince me not to move around too fast.”
“It’s over 80 degrees in here, Tempeste.”
“Thanks, Dad. I think.”

“Over 80F (26.6 C) degrees? That is not even civilized.”
“I agree. What are we going to do about it?”

“There’s not much we can do, except try to stay cool.”
“How on Earth do we do that in an oven?”

“I am fresh out of ideas.”
“I wonder if Mom can rustle up some ice cubes.”

“I think that would help, but Mom’s at the store.”
“Staying cool, I suppose.”
“I hope so.”
“She should take us with her.”

Isn’t that the way those appliances go? Our heater quit working during the coldest week this winter.
I hope by now you’ve got it fixed and are cool as cucumbers.

Seems the condenser on a brand new install failed. And we have to wait for the part. 😓 Thanks, Deborah

I hope they expedite the part for you!!

I have a feeling they really don’t care. I got a call yesterday from someone in the office who said they have a process, and it may or may not get here even though the tech said he would be back with the part today. So the process is what is important, not the customer.

Aw… you might convince Dad to make some paper fans with which to generate a bit of a breeze young ladies…

Thank you, Miss Annette. We have ceiling fans in every room. They do help. 😊

Why do things always break right before you really need them? AC, heater, car, sanity, vacuum, oven, and the list keeps going.

I know. It seems endless. They diagnosed the problem as a failed condenser. This unit was installed in October. Go figure.

Was it even used before now?

It is a heat pump, so it was used in the cold weather. Lately, we have had temps in the high 80s, and it seemed to work fine. Then on Tuesday it quit.

Ouch. Our heating system died right before the 20’s started up. Got it fixed right before the first blizzard though. Timing is always either great or horrible.

This is the first week I’ve heard one of my neighbor’s AC units humming. I’ve managed to stave that off for the time being, but summer’s coming. If the wait for your part’s going to be long, do what I did when a unique part for my car was scheduled to arrive in ‘who knows.’ I got online with the part number and found one in Olathe, Kansas. I also discovered that Toyota dealers are limited to looking for parts in the dealership’s specific area; they weren’t allowed to look nationwide.

Did you then inform the dealer?

I sure did. That’s how I found out how their organization structure is arranged. I’d already been visiting the parts department in person on a regular basis, so it was great fun to go in and tell them I had the part. It had beenovernighted, and I had it in my hand.

I get a bit grumpy when the A/C doesn’t work right. I hope it gets fixed soon, John. Hey girls–ask dad for some ice cream!

Twiggy’s face when she learned the A/C wasn’t working! And if it’s that hot in March, what the hell will it be in July and August? My goodness…

Nothing like the AC going out in the south. Moss starts to grow on your walls almost immediately in this humidity.

I could send them some of the snow from the drifts in our yard. Sorry about the heat. I shared this with the Editor. She will have great compassion for you and the girls.

Oh, thank you. It’s what we get for living on the sun.

So sorry to hear that. I hope the part comes in fast and all is covered by the warranty. (I’ve had the AC on for weeks now. I’d probably be in a hotel if it broke, though that would be interesting with Lucky.) Sending ear scratches and ice cubes to the girls.

They do enjoy the ear scratches for sure, and the ice cubes are certainly welcome. Thank you, Staci.

Sorry to hear about your discomfort, ladies. Is it cooler outside?
We are enjoying temps in the 80s here – completely unusual for this time of year, more normal for late April.
If you roll over, I’ll rub your bellies!

The girls look nice, even though they’re dealing with the high temperature. 80 degrees is high, even for me.

French bulldogs cannot take the heat for sure. I think the weather is expected to be in the mid-80s, so they will be okay. Thank you, Tim

Bulldogs and heat don’t mix well. Way back when, Otto used to love his wading pool. Frankie would never go near one.

Oh, gee, don’t you just hate that?? We’ve still got lots of winter left here, so if the girls are in a pinch for some “air conditioning,” send ’em up! Monk and I would enjoy the company (though we’re supposed to hit 70 this weekend, ha!) Hang in there, John — fingers crossed it’s repaired soon!

I’m with the girls on the ice cubes and fans. 80 is too high for me, especially with me being so warm-blooded. I’d be headed for a hotel. Hope they get you fixed up soon, John.
