Thought we could use a little Birds of Paradise break. These are in the front yard. Hope you enjoy.

Wednesday Story Day again. Last week we saw Ben get a pair and tell Mrs. Wolfe what he thought of her little testing methods. She pushed him too far in asking him to beg for another chance. We are rejoining Ben, Alexis and the father in the living room. Here take this air sickness bag before you go. It might get a little turbulent in there.
“Hey here’s Ben, Where you been Ben?”
“Daddy those puns are the worst.”
“I’ve been with Trudy playing a scene out of Mrs. Robinson.”
“Which part did you take?”
“Very funny daddy. What are you talking about Ben?”
“Your mother is nuts. She was giving me the business like in the movie.”
“She came on to you?”
“Don’t worry Ben and Alexis. She does that all the time. I think it’s the gin that does it.”
“And you don’t care daddy?”
“Believe me, when I say anytime your mother is busy is a good time for me.”
“Daddy. I can’t believe you would just let her run wild.”
“I know sweetheart. It is a fact of life these days.”
“Sir?”
“Yes, Ben.”
“Is there any way we can get the explosives and leave Mrs Worthe out of it.”
“I’ll answer that question Ben boy.”
“Yikes Mrs Wolfe. You sure walk quietly.”
“The answer is no. This husband of mine takes orders from me. Right dear?”
“Yup Trudy. You are right as rain.”
“That’s good. Now let’s get down to business shall we?”
“Am I still in?”
“Shut up Ben. I’ll let you know when you’re out.”
“Yes, ma’am.”

Three Legs by John W. Howell © 2015
“Sorry lady but I missed your comment.”
“Oh, young man my comment wasn’t for you to hear. I was talking to my friends.”
“I’m not sure I wasn’t supposed to hear. It sounded like you were commenting on my three legs.”
“My goodness, no young man. I was pointing to that building over there and wondered aloud if that’s where they stored eggs.”
“Eggs huh. Aren’t you a little old to be telling fibs?”
“I think all of us are allowed to tell lies once in a while. Especially if we avoid hurting someone’s feelings.”
“Like mine for instance?”
“Well yes.”
“You needn’t have bothered. I’m long past getting hurt feelings over my three legs.”
“Young man now that you have mentioned your three legs let me ask how you come to have three legs?”
“It is not a pretty story.”
“I think the three of us have heard most everything. If you would like to share, we would be willing to listen.”
“Well, when I was born I had four legs and lost one in the hay bailer.”
“Okay stop right there. You were right in the first place. I think it is none of our business. We have to be going.”
“You don’t want to hear about how I got into the hay bailer?”
“N-no thank you. Come on girls we need to catch the bus.”
“It’s a great story.”
“Bye now young man. Good luck to you.”
“I was on top of the machine—”
“We can’t hear you. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.”

The inspiration for this list was a discussion between my wife and me about some of the ways kids able to light the parental upset fuse by a simple question. We both have asked some and have been asked some.
Top Ten Things You Never Should Have Asked Your Mother
10 You should never have asked your mother “What meatloaf again?” If you did, at best you got a cold stare and shoulder. At worst, you were invited to partake of food at the neighbor’s house. (The look told you she meant it)
9 You should never have asked your mother on her birthday “How old are you now?” If you did, at best you got a lecture on poor manners. At worst, you were witness to flying cake and a bedroom door slam that you still see in your nightmares. (The heat from the flaming candles should have been a clue to clam up)
8 You should never have asked your mother once your dad told you no “Dad says to come and ask you for the car keys.” If you did, at best you’ll get a response that confirms your dad’s opinion. At worst, you will have been solely responsible for the resultant three months of additional chores once the parental units caught up to your scheme.( Good luck on ever seeing those keys)
7 You should never have asked your mother “Don’t you think that dress is a little out of style.” If you did, at best your mother will go change but not talk to your for the rest of the day. At worst, you will be subjected to a long lecture about all the things your mother gave up so that you could have the most up to date clothing. (She is probably right you ungrateful dependent you)
6 You should never have asked your mother “Can you and dad leave while my friends come over?” If you did, at best you will get a firm “No” in response. At worst, you will be delighted to have your parents sitting in the very room where you and your friends are gathering. (Your worst nightmare has come true)
5 You should never have called your mother on April Fools Day asking “Come bail me out of jail?” If you did, at best a cold cloth applied by dad worked to revive her. At worst, the joke will have backfired to the point where your mom still thinks there was something behind it. (Not nice to play high stakes jokes on your worried mom)
4 You should never have asked your mother to bake cupcakes for the soccer team the night before the event. If you did, at best the cupcakes were made but you owed your mom big time. At worst, the cakes were made but you were so tired from helping you had the worst game ever. (Notice in each case the cakes got made?)
3 You should never have asked your mother to give you lunch money instead of packing a lunch since all the cool kids buy their lunch. If you did, at best you got the money but also a discussion about proper nutrition and peer pressure. At worst, you didn’t get the money and now find your lunch consists of every food you can’t stand including a lot of fruits. (Mom’s way of telling you to quit trying to be part of the in crowd.)
2 You should have never asked your mother to tell a fib about where you were when your stood up date called to talk to you. If you did, at best your mother simply hands the phone to you. At worst, your mother tells your date that you are not interested in talking. (The truth will ice that relationship. Won’t it?)
1 You should have never asked your mother to babysit your kids. If you did, at best all had an excellent time. At worst, your mother doesn’t want to return them to you.

A little rainy. A front moved in from California bringing needed rain. The temps are expected to go into the fifties later today. The wind has caused the wave action to become a little more pronounced. Supposed to be sunny and warmer for the rest of the week. With the sun behind the clouds, the picture is much brighter.

I guess if you read the headline you are as confused as me. The Stream of Consciousness prompt this week is “Clo.” We are to use the three letters in the order you see here. Some folks wonder why writers are near the edge many times. With this kind of prompt is there any wonder. If you would like to challenge yourself to go near the edge check out Linda Hill’s site http://lindaghill.com/2015/12/11/the-friday-reminder-and-prompt-for-socs-dec-1215/.You will find all you need to know about going bonkers there. Now for my interpretation of Clo.
CLO by John W. Howell © 2015
“I mean it Harry. You need to come out of the closet.”
“I don’t have anything to declare.”
“No, you dope. I mean get your butt out of my closet. I need to get dressed.”
“My, my we are certainly touchy this morning.”
“Touchy my rear. How would you like to have some idiot sleeping in your closet? You are funking up all my clothes.”
“Come on Trish. I took a bath…er…last week. Besides, you know I need a place to crash.”
“The hotel is closed Harry. You need to move on. Look at the clock. When the big and little hand are on the twelve, you need to be cloistered somewhere else.”
“You use words like you are a nun or something. You’re sure not clothed like a nun.”
“You are getting close to being clobbered Harry. Watch your mouth.”
“Okay. Let me gather my clothing and be gone.”
“Don’t forget those awful clown shoes as well.”
“You never like me as a clown did you?”
“Don’t be a clod Harry. No one likes clowns.”
“I don’t know about that. You used to laugh pretty hard when I came clomping in after the show.”
“Well, that’s when we were getting along and had a closeness in our relationship.”
“Yeah what happened?”
“You never got your head out of the clouds. You never grew up.”
“My life is cloudless now.”
“And I have closure, Harry. I have moved on.”
“I know Trish. I wish I could as well. One more night in your closet and I’m sure I can close down my feelings.”
“You only have ten minutes Harry.”
Here we are to the last workday. This week was so beautiful here. The sun was out all week and it was like a refreshing break from about two weeks of gloomy weather. It seems all things go better in the sunshine. Here is a photo of some hibiscus that are blooming their hearts out right now. During this holiday season, they seem especially festive. A nice reward for all the rain.

Wednesday story time again. Last week we left poor Ben with Mrs. Wolfe who was doing her best Mrs. Robinson imitation and demanding that Ben come join her on the couch. If we can stand it we should go back to see how Ben fairs in this exchange.
“Here’s you drink Trudy.”
“Thank you. Ben. By the way, it is Mrs. Wolfe to you.”
“But you just said─”
“I know what I said, Ben. How foolish do you think I am? Did you think you were going to get somewhere with me?”
“I was just doing what you told me to do.”
“Pretty weak Ben. Do you have no loyalty to Alexis?”
“Yes of course. You have me so confused right now.”
“Well little man finish your drink and you might get a little clarity about what is going on.”
“So something’s going on?”
“Damn, you’re dumb. I have been testing you Ben and quite frankly I don’t think you have the right stuff to participate in our little fundraising project.”
“Yes, I do. Give me another chance.”
“Beg Ben”
“Screw you Trudy.”
“That’s Mrs. Wolfe.”
“Okay then. screw you Mrs. Wolfe. Here take this stinking drink. I hate gin. I’m going back to rejoin Alexis and your husband.”
“You go boy.”
“Bite me Mrs. Wolfe.”
