Friday -AKA – JohnKu TGIF

A football

Friday is here and with it a great longing for a continuation of the Football season. Oh sure, there is the Pro Bowl this weekend and the Super Bowl on February 1st but that is still not what I would consider a continuation of the season. Once all the college games were finished I had this hangover like I had been to too many loud parties but like attending loud parties, I have some good memories. My teams (Notre Dame, Michigan State and Baylor) made the season last as long as they could, but it still came to an end with the victory of Ohio State over the Oregon Ducks. My pro hopes were dashed with the defeat of the Pittsburgh Steelers at the hands of the Baltimore Ravens (spit). I did watch the AFC and NFC championships without having a favorite. It is interesting when you are not emotionally involved in the game you can actually appreciate good plays on either side.(and keep the blood pressure under control) I enjoyed the Green Bay/ Seahawks game because of the come from behind effort by the Seahawks. The Baltimore Colts/ New England Patriots game was definitely one-sided in favor of the Patriots. The Super Bowl should be a good game since I think these teams will give it their best effort. This week’s JohnKu (a term coined by Words4jp) is about football (you think?) I hope you like it.

Just hoping it’s a fun game this year. I thought the Super Bowl was on February 1st this year.

Yeah I got my calendar messed up. Pay no attention to what I put down as dates. I write fiction. (thanks for hinting at my mistake) 🙂

Don’t worry. I’ve seen everything from January 30th to February 14th mentioned this past week. Maybe we’re not used to it hitting the first of February.

At the risk of shocking you beyond repair, I’ve never watched football or baseball or golf or hockey or … when I was in high school, I had a fleeting interest in basketball and went to a couple of home games. I am … ahem … a “sports-free” individual 😉 I know. You (and others) probably now think of me as a lost soul 😉

I actually am the same on the rest of the sports world so I’m not shocked at all. In fact on the off season I envy you sine you don’t miss it ever. 🙂

I hope the super Bowl is a good game John because I’ll be watching it at a rather large gathering. We often kick off (no pun intended) our company’s Annual Meeting with a Super Bowl party. I am a lifelong Steelers fan (good to see you on our side) but since I live in CT, I have a bias against New England. I keep wanting the NFL to realign the conferences and move Baltimore into the AFC East and Buffalo into the AFC North – it makes sense doesn’t it? Anyway, I’ll be mildly rooting for Seattle. I lived there from ’78 – 81 so I give it honorary hometown status, abeit well below Pittsburgh.

I do watch a little NCAA BBall (Pitt, WVU grad) and I follow baseball but nothing really holds my attention the way football does. See you in August 🙂

Thanks for the comment. I lived in Connecticut (Darien/Wilton) for five years so New England has a place in my heart now that I am far away from there and haven’t learned to hate them. They are bad boys but play good ball. I’m really concerned about Pittsburgh next year. Just seems like time is running out. I don’t do any other sport so I have this void. Your realign of the NFL does make sense. See you in August. 🙂

My thinking is this John. Next year is the 50th Super Bowl. If the Steelers win, it would be their 7th trophy, They play (home games, not the SB) at Heinz Stadium. Something about Heinz + 50 + 7 that makes me think it has to happen.I can already see the tee-shirt.

I watched the play offs and was sorry to see then lose. They played well just the luck of the game wasn’t with them. (God is not made of Cheese)

I let the boys have their fun and make all the food. I don’t understand anything about sport. I simply leave the house and go to the library where I find blessed peace and quiet.

    I like your JohnKu. 🙂

I love Superbowl Sunday. We usually go on a nice long hike because the trails are deserted. 😝

For me the season never ends: Madden 2015! If my “get rich writing” plan goes bust, I’ll still have “get rich winning Madden tournaments” plan.

John, John… reading your blog, I was pretty close to thinking you were the perfect man… when GASP! I learned you were a Steelers fan! Oh horrors! As a Ravens fan (hey! what’s with the spit, pal?!), I must shake my head sadly at this knowledge.

*GRIN* The above was said with humor. I still think you’re pretty cool and love your fiction. I’ll just look the other way when you sport black and gold. 😀

Kate. Thanks for the observation on perfect. We all have little chinks and the Steelers is mine. My neighbor is a Ravens fan and he always says Steelers (spit) so I though turn about was fair play. In your favor I thing the football god likes the Ravens better than the Steelers.
