Thursday – A little personal

Two weeks ago I ran a photo of Peggy the Heron and received a number of questions on the state of her health.  She is doing well and to more or less prove my point I have some photos to share.  This first is from about a week ago.

Peggy Looking for a hand out

This was a foggy morning. You can see a couple of fisher people. Peggy is right there with them and you will get an idea on how she stays healthy. It is very hard for folks to deny her a handout especially when she puts on her injured bird routine.

Peggy keeping watch

This was taken yesterday. Peggy is perched on the dune and waiting for a group of fisherfolk to get settled. Once they are ready to bait hooks she will fly down and land on one leg. There will be aw’s and a call to the rescue group (who have given up catching her). Finally, a few undersized fish will be tossed and Peggy will have had her normal day.

This last photo is not of Peggy but thought you would enjoy one of the sights greeting me each morning.

On watch

It is another Heron sitting on the beach marker. This was also taken yesterday

Terrific post, John. Gave me a morning-coffee smile. That Peggy is a clever girl! We always underestimate their intelligence, it seems… I know you’re having a thriving Thursday. Mega hugs.

She more or less demands a treat. I caught one guy throwing sticks at her. Told him he was committing a felony. He complained that she was trying to take his bait. I suggested he give her a fish which he did. Problem solved. (guy was a jerk anyway)

People can be real jerks. We had an eagle like that in Nevada. Everyone gave him a fish, except the guy who shot him.

How’s the weather down there? Here, we’re having a thunderstorm just now with quite a good downpour.
    Have a great day,

We had good rains here the last few days. And chances are for more: Sunday, and then Wednesday through Friday next week.

Well, the bulk of it seems to have been to the northeast of us even. So no chance for you at the coast.

Peggy and my Dallas must be siblings from a different mother — Dallas, too, has that begging thing perfected. No wonder I’ve had to put him on weight management food, ha! Great post, my friend!

Please ask Peggy to schedule a small workshop on “how to work the crowd”. She obviously is a lady master.
