Thursday – A Little Personal – My GRL New Cover Preview

As you may know, I will be launching a revised edition of My GRL. The reason this is necessary is that my contract with the publisher expires in 2017. I got word this week that the old edition of My GRL will be pulled from distribution on March 1st. The new edition will go up on the same day. Β I thought I would give you a look at the cover. It follows the convention established on His Revenge and Our Justice. I hope you like it.

My only challenge is trying to work out how to save the Fifty-Nine reviews. I have askedΒ Amazon for advice. I know It’s like going to the IRS for tax advice but I don’t have anywhere else to go. They did respond with the information that all I have to do is inform them of the old ISBN number and the new. They will then restore all the existing reviews.

  1. I have had a number of new editions John and they did carry the reviews over.. although not as impressive as your number it shows the system works! Love the book cover.. fantastic.

    1. Thank you, Sally. It is reassuring to hear that the system works.I’m so glad you like the cover as well. πŸ™‚

  2. Glad you get to keep your reviews. And the new cover is stunning πŸ™‚

    1. Thank you, Laure. I like the looks of your combined blog as well. Call me a new follower. πŸ™‚

  3. Great looking cover, John. πŸ™‚ — Suzanne

    1. Thank you, Suzanne. It represents editorial freedom. πŸ™‚

  4. I like the new cover!

    1. I’m glad. it is alway tense going in a different direction. Thanks, Pam. πŸ™‚

  5. Great cover, John, and wonderful story! Best of luck in 2017! πŸ˜ƒ

    1. Thanks, Janice. πŸ™‚

  6. Gwen Plano · ·

Wonderful news about Amazon…and your new cover is impressive!

    1. Thanks, Gwen. Fingers crossed. πŸ™‚

  7. Tough one. I remember early on that they would combine reviews for different editions of a book. So those of an older version would eventually appear under the new one.

    1. Thant is what they tell me. We shall see. πŸ™‚

      1. Well, I don’t think they can get rid of the old version. Just in case someone who bought it wants to review or return.

      2. I suppose. πŸ™‚

  8. Cover looks good, and fingers crossed for your reviews.

    1. I know on the fingers right? Dealing with Amazon has it’s challenges. Thanks, Craig.

  9. That’s great news, John. Does this mean that there will be Trilogy Packaging at some point? Just in case I need a gift idea in 2017 πŸ™‚

The cover looks great. Good luck with the transition.

    1. I think by year’s end I can put them together. Thanks, for the good wishes. πŸ™‚

      1. I’m entering it in Evernote, under gift ideas for Christmas 2017 – I think that means you’re committed.

      2. I guess so. I have to figure out how to do it since my staff is on a permanent vacation. πŸ™‚ Now I have a goal.

  10. This looks great, John!

    1. Thank you, Barbara. I’m very hoary with it. :-).

  11. I love the new cover, John! I’m sure everything will work out with the reviews. Are you happy with the cover? The sun peeking through the clouds looks fabulous.

    1. I am happy. The back cover has a skyline of the New York harbor where the terrorists have targeted their mayhem. I really like it. Thanks, Jill πŸ™‚

      1. Excellent! I’ve got the first on my Kindle, but I’m going to order the hard copy so I can see the back too. πŸ™‚

      2. I’ll send a pic.

  12. Love the new cover, John – well done!!! Happy to hear your Amazon reviews won’t be lost!

    1. I’m happy they won’t be lost too. (Fingers crossed. Still up to Amazon to make it happen. Thanks, John. πŸ™‚

  13. Great cover! That is great that you’ll be able to restore the reviews.

    1. At least that’s what Amazon says. We’ll see what happens down the road. Thank you, Brenda. πŸ™‚

  14. Wow, congrats on that great new cover. It’s the perfect complement for the others in the series. And I understand that Amazon does carry reviews over. It may take a few days, but I’ve heard they’re pretty good at getting them transferred.

    1. Thanks Mae Clair. Good to know what they say is the truth. πŸ™‚

  15. That makes it all look like part of the set now! πŸ˜€
Amazon are pretty good at coping with ‘mismatches’ via ISBN edition numbers. I publish in paperback through |Ingrams/Lightning Source and do KDP myself as DreamWorlds Publishing and all the reviews are lumped together so it must work for revisions as well! πŸ˜‰

    1. Thanks, Jan, I hope it works.

  16. Good luck, John.
The publishing game will drive an author around the bend.

    1. Thanks, Hook. Around the bend and then some. πŸ™‚

  17. Looks fantastic John! Glad to hear that Amazon will take care of you on the reviews. I can imagine the whole process induces a lot of hand wringing.

    1. Yes. Hand wringing is an understatement. Thanks, Phillip. πŸ™‚

  18. John, I’m learning sooo much from you — thank you! Love the new cover and yes, it does “go” with the other two. Glad you’ll be able to save your reviews — would be awful if you had to start completely over!

    1. I know right? I’m glad as well. Also I will have complete control over pricing and promotion. YAY. πŸ˜€

      1. That can be BIG! I wish you much success with its relaunch, my friend (as well as with the others, of course!)

      2. Thank you , Debbie. πŸ™‚

  19. Applesauce! I know that’s a nail-biter about getting the reviews to stay with the book. Here’s wishing it goes smoothly. The cover looks good. The three-quarter view of the model carries the theme over well. Have a thriving Thursday. Hugs.

    1. Thank you, Teagan. I think it is an improvement over the blue ocean view.

  20. Great Cover. Does make me initially think of a story about a woman, GRL, rather than a boat, GRL. Catchy, though. Good to know about getting those reviews switched over with your new ISBN. Wouldn’t want to lose those.

    1. Of course it does. But a chance I took . I didn’t want a male midshipman on the cover. Thanks, Susan.

  21. I actually prefer the new cover. Impressive review count, too.

    1. I so glad. Thank you. Dale. πŸ™‚

  22. I love the new cover, John! It draws the eye perfectly and will stand out well. My non-fiction works had over 300 reviews when my then publisher closed its doors; and the books remained unpublished for over 18 months, before I had the gumption to self-publish. Amazon reinstated all my reviews with no glitches whatsoever. I hope ‘My GRL’ second edition has an equally smooth transition.

    1. After our interview on Rave Waves I contacted Amazon because of what you said and got a process from them. Thanks.

      1. That’s great, John. It’s a fabulous read and I’m so pleased that you won’t lose your reviews.

      2. Me too. Thanks Soooz

  23. Looks great (love the colors) and fits in well with the others – good luck on transferring the reviews over.

    1. Thanks, Teri. I think it will be fine.

  24. Looks great! And good luck with the reviews, I’m pretty sure I’ve seen reviews travel over for new editions for other books so I’m optimistic for you! πŸ™‚

    1. Thanks, Helen. I agee. πŸ™‚

  25. N.i.c.e. cover. I’m sure it’ll work out but I understand your concern. πŸ™‚

    1. Thanks, Tess. I think it will as well.

      1. You are welcome, John. πŸ˜‰

  26. Best wishes for continued success, John! Love the new cover, too! πŸ™‚

    1. Thank you, Natalie. πŸ™‚

  27. Looks good! May you have continued success!

    1. Thank you so much, Jo

  28. LOVE the new cover!! Hope Amazon keeps the reviews. I think Sally is right.

  29. Nice! I’m digging it.

  30. Really like the cover a lot. Was hoping my His Revenge would show up here today but not yet. Happy Friday John!

    1. Thank you, Lennon. (For buying a book and liking the cover) πŸ˜€
