It is Stream of Consciousness Saturday time again. This week’s prompt is “Coat.” It is also Just Jot is January and this post counts in both. That’s good since I have missed all the prompts so far. If you would like to participate in either go to Linda Hill’s post and read all about it. Here is the link. https://lindaghill.com/2017/01/06/the-friday-reminder-and-prompt-for-socs-and-jusjojan-jan-717/
Coat by John W. Howell © 2017
“What are you doing?”
“Putting on a coat.”
“I can see that. I’m talking about those gloves, the cap, scarf, and Uggs.”
“Hello. This is the middle of winter and we’re going out.”
“I know but you look like you live in Minnesota. ”
“I can’t help it. The Arctic Vortex has hit us.”
“Well, it’s a little colder than normal but hardly worth dressing like you’re competing in the Iditarod.”
“Speak for yourself flip-flop man. I see you are wearing shoes.”
“Well yeah. we are going out to dinner and I don’t think the restaurant folks would appreciate me walking in with flip-flops. Besides these are boat shoes. Hardly good in the snow.”
“I don’t care. I’ve been cold for two days and I’m not taking it anymore.”
“Cold for two days? Are you sure you don’t have the flu or something?”
“I don’t have anything but goosebumps.”
“The Arctic Vortex has just been here since yesterday. Why have you been cold for two days.”
“You know as well as I the air conditioner was not working right. It was stuck on cool. The house was 65 degrees.”
“I know. Why didn’t you open the door and let in some warm air?”
“You know how the humidity ruins the furniture.”
“Well, it is now fixed.”
“And it is still 65 degrees.”
“Turn on the heat.”
“What? Turn on the heat so early in the season? No way.”
“You know how ridiculous this conversation sounds to the folks up North don’t you?”
“They are lucky.”
“How so?”
“When it is time to be cold it is cold. Makes planning easier.”
“I see. Let me help you with that coat. I certainly hope no one reads this. We will be the laughing-stock.”
Brilliant exchange. It’s amazing how our weather is so much part of our everyday conversation – no matter where we live. 🙂

So true. I imagine it is one of those ice breaker kind of things that we all share. (It might have been from living without shelter in the ancient times) “Hey Ogg, you wet.” “I know Goo it rain.” “Where Ogg?” “Over there.” “When here?” “Ask weather witch.”

Bonus story! 😀 I think you have a new feature with Ogg and Goo.

Could be. The sad thing is there are thousands of these dumb things running around in my head and when I start typing they fall out. Sometimes embarrassing. Thanks, Teagan

Oh yeah. The fun of ‘cold’ weather in the South. Always had fun seeing Floridians panic when it hit 60. To be fair, opening the window is just asking for a rain storm.

Ha ha ha. I once asked when you could open windows here and the answer was,”never.” Thanks, Charles

I noticed that in Florida. A lot of people said it was to keep the bugs out, but those things got in anyway. Unless there were bigger, nastier bugs that I never saw.

I love how people in Florida call roaches Palmetto bugs. A classier name.

I called them my mortal enemies. Much better.

Nice job, John! Until the temperature hits 80…it’s cold. It’s 28 now, so I’m huddled with my coffee. Happy Saturday!

We actually are at 28 here as well. The puppy’s water outside water bowl was frozen. Brrrrrrrr. 🙂

Dare I laugh??? I think you’re probably in “hot” water over that conversation regardless of the temperature. It all depends on what you’re used to, doesn’t it… It’s absolutely nasty here, but someone in… North Dakota, or Michigan would snort at me and my electric throw.
Terrific post, John. Hysterical. Have a satisfying Saturday. Stay warm. 😀

I am preparing to take the dogs for a walk and it is 30 degrees out there. I can’t imagine it being colder but I know those in sub zeros would scoff. Stay warm as well, Teagan. 🙂

As a Canadian this exchange is hilarious! It’s -20 here today and the snowbanks in our driveway are 4 feet high. 🙂 I’m patiently waiting for Spring!

I have you can stay warm, Natalie.

Awww, it’s a balmy nine below zero here today, with another massive storm on the way. Coffee, iPad, humidifier, Otto and his toy, I’m set. I think humans should be able to hibernate.

Me too. It’s funny but I remember the humidifier from my days in the midwest. it was a must-have. Stay warm.

Haha! Well it IS getting cold here in FL. We just had to cover our yiung tropical trees, temps dropping. Still, my sons who live in NE laugh at me as they go out in their “balmy” 40 something temps in the Spring. Urrrggghhhh…..

We had 29 last night. I live on the Gulf in Texas and have not had that kind of cold here before. IT IS COLD!!!!! 😀

Here too. We had 80 yesterday. Will be near freezing tonight. Then back up by Tuesday or so. My hubby was BOI Galveston. Spent a lot of years in TX. Teo sons born there.

We northerners like to be prepared–for any weather. It’s been unexpectedly changeable of late. Nice banter, John.
Ogg and Goo have a certain ring to them. 😛

It’s all relative isn’t it.
30 degrees is freezing where I’m from. I wouldn’t even take Diva Dog for a walk in 30 degree cold! We’d just nip out take care of it and dash back in and snuggle under a blanket! It’s pouring here and that’s pretty much what we’ve been doing. 🙂
I had hoped this being a Pineapple Express type of storm it would be warmer…no such luck. 😦

Ours is supposed to break tomorrow. I don’t know why I insist on a walk. We have doggie coats that are made like horse blankets so it is easy off and on. I have to admit once the walk is over they seem to enjoy the snuggle part. Thanks, Deborah.

Yanno Sheriff, if I didn’t love you so much? I’d hate you right now, lol. Temps in my hamlet are gifting the denizens numbers that the Green Party surpassed in the November election. But it’s okay, you’re forgiven. Because in spite of all that, you made me laugh.
As for your Steelers? Hey man, you kicked our butts. Best of luck next week in KC.
