Views of the Neighborhood – Austin

Since we are still in Austin and looks like we will be for another week at least, this edition of Viewscomes from where we are since the views of Port Aransas are not very pretty.

Views of the Neighborhood

Here is a shot of the capital building taken from 5th Avenue and Lamar which is close to where we are staying.

Lucy and Bailey are used to a morning walk on the beach so if you don’t mind here is a pictorial of our morning walk in Austin. This is a shot of the city looking East back over our shoulders.

The first thing Lucy and Bailey had to get used to was the crosswalk.

Here is the crushed granite trail looking West. Not sand but close.

This is a view of the trail looking back toward the East

A watering station. Bailey says, “Pass.”

A lovely little creek running under the path

A shot of a golden lab hitting the water.

This is Town Lake which runs on the South side of the trail. The Golden Retriever is on the right and boaters way off to the left.

I was surprised to see Poison Ivy warnings.

Views of the Neighborhood

This is the East end of Town Lake

Fluffy white dog in the water.

All I need is the air that I breathe.

This is a platform for viewing Town Lake. The graffiti says SLEEPY and on a hot day this looked like a good nap place.

Historical information about Town Lake (Shoal Creek) and the founding of Austin as the capital

The most Eastern bank of Town Lake

Some turtles in a muddy flooded creek.

Another shot of the Eastern edge of Town Lake.

Hope you enjoyed the walk.

  1. Thank you for taking us on the walk with you. May you and your beautiful family soon return to sand under foot and ocean breezes. 🙂

  2. Very pretty, except for that poison ivy warning. The worst case I ever had was after pug dog ran through it and then ran to me.

I hope the gravel path was close enough to beach for the pups.

  3. A completely different vibe from your home, but Austin looks like a nice city.
I’m still sad about Port Aransas. I know you must feel that times a thousand. It will be interesting to watch it being rebuilt through your lens.
This year I’ve been trying to talk myself into places that are not as difficult (physically) to reach, for a move. But the ones I can accept are prone to Mother Nature’s whims. If I still have a dream, I guess I’ll keep it back to the desert. 🙂
Wishing you and yours a sublime Sunday, John. Hugs!

  4. Thanks for the walk – I enjoyed my exercise for the day… I passed on the watering station as well, Bailey! Austin looks lovely, John. Hope you guys can go home in another week – or sooner!

  5. Thanks for the walk through the lovely park, John. I really needed to stretch my legs this morning after a full day at the computer yesterday. Praying you can make it home later this week. I know you must be itching to get started on your repairs and getting your life back to normal. Hugs!

  6. Looks like a nice morning walk, John. Austin does have quite a few great paths and trails, doesn’t it? I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you that you’ll find everything still ok [or, at least, not too much damaged] when you get back to Port A. I’ve seen pictures of some horribl;e destruction there: a whole section of the parking-lot of Victoria’s on the Bay now being “part on the marina”!
Take care, and enjoy your Sunday,
    Pit

  7. So glad you found a great city to stay before returning home. Which I hope will be soon and not too devastating. You took us on a nice walk around the cool city of Austin. It’s a dog friendly place for sure. A plus for yours. Take care, John.

  8. Thanks for taking me along on your walk, John. I very much enjoyed seeing parts of Austin — no wonder the young’uns gravitate there, it’s lovely! I don’t guess I’ve ever seen poison ivy warning signs or a dog-watering station. I like the looks of the fluffy white dog, though!

  9. I love Austin. We were there twice this year. Once to visit my wife’s aunt for vacation in March and then a return in June for her funeral when her bone cancer finally took her from the family. We stayed an extra few days after the funeral and enjoyed the surrounding area. We went up to Magnolia Farms in Waco and took my daughter to a water park in Pflugerville. Throw in some great barbecue, and it was a good time.
