Tuesday – Anything Possible – Kreative Kue #142 by Keith Channing

In Keith’s words. “Using this photo ( below) as inspiration, write a short story, flash fiction, scene, poem; anything, really; even just a caption for the photograph. Either put it (or a link to it) in a comment or email it to me at keith@channing.info before 6pm next Sunday (if you aren’t sure what the time is where I live, this link will tell you). If you post it on your own blog or site, a link to this page would be appreciated, but please do also mention it in a comment here – pingbacks don’t often work.

Go on. You know you want to. Let your creativity and imagination soar. I shall display the entries, with links to your own blog or web site, next Monday.”

The photo.

Kreative Kue #142

Carry out by John W. Howell © 2017

“Yes hello.”

“Yes, this is the Beef-O-Rama. How may I help you?”

“Um okay. Yes, we have carry out.  I think we can handle that. Sure thing. Thanks for calling. We’ll expect you at six o’clock. Goodbye.”

“Who was that?”

“A customer.”

“What kind of customer?”

“A very big customer.”

“What did they want?”

“They wanted to know if our menu was okay for carry out.”

“You told them yes, right?”

“I sure did.”

“And they’ll be here at six o’clock.”

“That’s what they said.”

“Did they order something?”

“Yes, they ordered some steaks.”

“Steaks for carryout. I’m surprised.”

“Well, they said it was a special occasion.”

“I can believe that.”

“Well, I’d better get busy.”

“Busy how?”

“To get their order ready.”

“Wait it’s only one o’clock. What’s the rush?”

“I have to order the meat and potatoes and green beans and then start the prep for the grill. Then I need to hire about twenty people—”

“Hold on. What are you talking about?”

“Oh, I forgot to tell you.”

“What?”

” The order is for a hundred steak dinners.”

“A-a hundred? Who was that the government?”

“Well, not really.”

“Who then?”

“Our neighbor. They are throwing a party.”

“A party? Who for?”

“They didn’t say. I know who it is not for though.”

“Who?”

“You and I. Let’s get to work.”

  1. Good one John. I worked for a catering company. Except for hiring more people, this was pretty close. Our owner was more like “just work harder”

    1. Working harder not better is the usual advice. Thanks, Dan

  2. Just imagining the logistics of making 100 steak dinners and sides in 5 hours makes me want to order the chicken.

    1. Or go somewhere else. Thanks, Charles.

  3. Hum…not sure I’d order steak from a joint called Beef-O-Rama. 🙂 Great job, John!

    1. I know right? That was my little joke that you caught immediately. Thanks, Jill

  4. Nice one, John.
Every time my last boss piled extra work on me, he said, “Look at it as another opportunity for continued employment.”
Mind you, he never asked me to make a steak dinner for that many people.
I would have been worried if he had – I was a Systems Consultant in IT (we called it Information Services, but I’d best not use those initials!)

    1. Thank you, Keith. I was going to make a slam at the government or the Red Cross but seemed too easy. 😀

  5. Well done (not the steaks), Sir John! I can’t imagine!

  6. Another good one, John. Wow! 100 Steak dinners put together by two people. Yep, she’s gonna need to hire some temp help immediately!

    1. I think so too. Thanks, Jan.

  7. Someone needs to fire the party planner. The guy down the road just got a rush order for a dozen floral centerpieces.

    1. Can you imagine? And carryout at that.

    Beef-O-Rama… Lol… What a great name.

    1. Thanks, DL. It cracked me up when I wrote it.

  9. Yikes, a hundred steak dinners? Hope they’ve factored in all the extra costs!!

    1. Not to worry. They have it all figured out.

  10. Yikes! I wouldn’t want to be in that kitchen cooking all those steak dinners.
    Beef-O-Rama, is right!

  11. For some reason, I had Soylent Green images in my head. I’m with Jill…I’ll steer clear of that place!

    1. I think you are right to do so.

  12. Beef-O-Rama for steaks? I don’t think so.

    1. Ha ha ha. Thanks, Teri.

  13. I’m your girl if fast food service is the game. I killed it 25 years ago as a Wendy’s employee.

    1. I’m impressed.

    1. Another thank you, today. 😀
