Thursday – A Little Personal – Twiggy’s First Swim

“Hey, Dad. What’s Mom doing?”

“She is setting up the dog pool.”

“Dog pool? What is a dog pool?

“Go see for yourself.”

Twiggy, Lucy, Bailey

“Lucy, Bailey.”

“What short stuff?”

“What is this thing anyway?”

“It’s a place to get cool.”

“Cool? How’s that?”

“You know, you ask a lot of questions, Twiggy. See I’m in the water.”

“So you have wet paws, Bailey. How fun is that?

“The water feels good. If you lay down it’s better.”

“Okay let me see a laydown.”

“Not so fast little one. You need to get in here too.”

“Then there won’t be any room.”

“Bailey, who you kidding. You never lay down in the pool.”

“Sush. I’m trying to get theΒ id-kay to ay-lay own-day in the oolΒ -pay”

“I’m not going to lay down if you don’t, Bailey.”

“Where did you learn pig latin?

“From my iblings-say. I’ll get in but standing up.”

“Hey, mom. Hold the pool. Twiggy’s doing the Curley Shuffle.”

“This feels pretty good, Lucy. Come on in.”

“You know short stuff. I just had a manni and I think my nails are still wet.

“Lucy doesn’tΒ like the pool, Twiggy. Don’t let her fool you”

“That true, Lucy?”

“You get out of there now, Twiggy. You never know whats under the water.”

“But I can see the bottom.”

“That’s what Captain Ahab said.”

Twiggy, Lucy. Bailey

“Okay, I’ll give it to you, Bailey. The pool is good for drinking.”

“I can’t reach it. Lucy.”

“That’s okay, Little one. You can jump right back in.”

“Hey, Bailey. How about if you leave some for us.”

“I think you two are on your own. A couple of chickens I would say.”

  1. I am pleased to see Lucy and Bailey introducing Twiggy to the joys of life, John.

    1. Thank you, Robbie. πŸ˜€

  2. Cute, John. This summer should be interesting for those three!

    1. That is true, GP. Thanks.

  3. So, did Twiggy love the pool or decide it’s for the fishes? Kind of surprised there’s no pic of her splashing around, but I don’t know much about puppy behavior.

    1. She was so so on it. She waded around but no splashing.

      1. Well, Lucy does have a point. Never know when a white whale is lurking nearby. πŸ˜›

  4. Twiggy was probably wondering where the diving board was . . .

      1. She is definitely a cannonball diver.

      2. I could see that. Thanks, Marc.

  5. Summer fun…there’s nothing better. You need to get a slide!

    1. Ha haha. That would be fun, Jill. πŸ˜€

  6. Gwen Plano · ·

You are a dog whisperer, John. Incredible dialogue and story. Have a great day. 😊

    1. You as well, Gwen.

  7. Too cute! I love watching her learn all her “firsts” with her more experienced sisters.

    1. She is like a blank page for sure. Thanks Staci.

  8. Ah… I just might make it through the day, now that I’ve had my Twiggy fix.
I got a kick out of Lucy’s β€œThat’s what Captain Ahab said.” Thanks for this delight, John. Huge hugs.

    1. Thank you, Teagan. I have faith you’ll make it. HUGS

  9. So sweet! Love that you capture these moments and share with such amusing commentary. Cheers! πŸ™‚

    1. Thank you, Natalie. One of my priorities for the week.

  10. Girls’ day by the pool – an excellent idea.

    1. Doesn’t it sound wonderful?

  11. Clearly, their pool’s more substantial than the first one I had. As I remember it, their nails might have gone right through the plastic and drained the water. I’m glad to see those pools still are around!

    1. Thanks, Linda. We have had this one for about five years or so.

  12. That was so much fun. And now it makes me want to go lounge by a pool. Your girls are ready for Memorial Day weekend! πŸ™‚

    1. Thank you, Mae. These princesses are made for lounging for sure. πŸ˜€

  13. Amazing adventure for her, dear John! And where is the friend octopus living in the depth of the pool? Together they would have more fun!

    1. Octopus is allergic to water. Ha ha ha.

      1. Ha-ha-ha! Is it? Poor creature!

      2. Yes poor thing.

  14. Looks like a new pool — a bigger one — might be in order, John. More trouble for y’all, of course, but less aggravation for this trio at having to share!

    1. Of course Lucy avoids it like the plague. You are right of course.

  15. Watch her little tail when it gets wet. Otto actually has a tail, so no problem. Frankie has about a half inch of tail and that’s covered by an inch of skin. She has gotten some terrible infections in her tail, because it doesn’t dry out fast enough.

    1. Thank you, Craig. You have the experience. We will watch it.

  16. Life doesn’t get any better than that.

    1. Not for these three any way. Thanks, Greg

  17. These guys are too cute, John. Maddie is with Lucy on the subject of pools. We got her one last year, but she shows no interest in getting in it.

    1. Huge drinking bowl.

  18. A doggie pool is such a clever idea, John! We need to keep our fur-babies cool this summer.πŸΆπŸ’•

    1. So true, Vashti.

      1. πŸ˜€ xx

    1. Thank you, Jan πŸ˜€

  19. E-day ight-lay ul-fay! β™₯

    1. Hank-tay, Illy-Bay Ay-ray.

      1. β™₯β™₯β™₯

  20. D.L. Finn · ·

Nice its time to get the dog pool out…ours think its more for drinking:) She is sure growing, I love seeing them all together!

    1. Thanks, Denese. They are a crowd for sure.

    1. Thank you, Charlotte.

  21. Aww, there’s nothing like a pool for summer fun. Too cute, John!

    1. Thank you, Luanne.

  22. Reblogged this on Words To Captivate ~ by John Fioravanti and commented:
John W. Howell delights us with an episode outside and the dog pool. Please enjoy!

    1. Thank you for the reblog, John

      1. You’re welcome, John.

  23. This is terrific. Little Twiggy – is awesome. I love your stories – I can hardly wait to read them each week. A dog lover in Waterloo

    1. Thank you, Anne. I’m glad you like them.

  24. So cute. Twiggy is such a special little kid! And she has two experts to show her the way in life haha.

    1. Thank you, Luanne.

  25. She’s growing…going to be a great lady-bandit πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‚πŸ˜…

    1. Lady Bandit for sure. Thanks, Ray. πŸ˜€

  26. Haha! Nice. My lab used to love her pool. She would run in and out of it while I filled it and love me to spray the hose right in her face. I sure miss Cheyenne.

    1. I’m sure Cheyenne is having a ball on the other side of the Rainbow bridge, Cheryl. Thanks for sharing a beautiful memory.

  27. Well I hope she is still running free and going on duck hunts with the nice man who gave her a home when we moved out of the country John. Wherever she is, I hope she has a sweet memory of us. Thanks!

  28. Lessons from the big girls! I wonder which Twiggy will be more like? They’re so cute!

    1. She is acting more like Lucy. She has learned to “play bow” which is a Boxer trait.

  29. Hello, another wonderful doggy tail. I can’t get over how cute Twiggy is. All of my four dogs enjoy being bathed but won’t get into our swimming pool.

    1. That is a funny situation, Kim. Only Lucy won’t get in.

      1. It seems that my dogs are frightened of water that they cannot stand in with their head above water. None of then try and swim.

      2. Our boxers can’t swim for some reason. Something about their body weight distribution. (A lot of Boxers can’t swim)

  30. Great fun and a great way to end my day! Thanks!!!

    1. So glad, Jill. πŸ˜€

    1. Thank you for the A Little Personal link, Traci

  31. Adorable, John. Love the pig Latin and Twiggy’s nicknames.

    1. πŸ™‚ Thank you, Jennie.

      1. You’re welcome, John. πŸ™‚
