Port Aransas is looking a little bit like Christmas, so I thought I would do a quick run through town and see what evidence I could find of holiday preparations
My first stop was Winton’s candy store. They have a pet rattlesnake inside, and sure enough, there is a cartoon version on one of the front windows.
The other window featured snow people who are very rare here unless served with some kind of syrup.
On to the souvenir shop for a look at an entirely non-commercial holiday message.
The other window had a festive message as well.
The IGA is all decked out.
The city banners are up. Here is a message from Port Aransas to you.
The city tree is ready with gifts and decorations.
The motel with an airplane theme has Snoopy out front preparing to meet the Red Baron.
Here is a shot of one of the resorts holiday display.
My summation is not everyone is ready for the holiday. Maybe there will be more this week.
It’s early yet. There’s still plenty of time. Good pictures, John. ๐ — Suzanne

Is it cold? We have pictures of snow too, because it’s kind of impossible to snow in summer.

We don’t generally get snow. We are a climate much like Queensland. A few days chilly 40’s to 50’s F) then temps in the 70’s F again.

People are getting into the spirit, though slowly this year it seems. The same is happening here for some reason.

I noticed the same. Thanks, GP

It looks like thereโs a lot of spirit running around. I love Snoopy and that biplane. I hope they had an electric pump – phew.

‘Tis the season, John! We have six inches of snow here this morning – won’t last, though. It turns to rain later, then to ice tonight, then snow tomorrow AM. A power outage storm. We’re just waiting…
All of which you don’t have to suffer!

We don’t have to suffer all of that. Thank heavens. Sorry you do, Noelle.

Good morning, John,
Wintonโs candy store always gives me the shivers. I believe you can guess why. ๐ Snoopy in his plane is my favourite decoration, even if it’s not totally Christmasy.
Here, I’ve had so much on my plate lately that I needed an complete at-home day yesterday and didn’t go out with my wife and her cousin for the Christmas lights here and in Johnson City. Maybe some other day. We’ll see.
Have a wonderful Sunday,
Pit

Thanks for sharing, John. As a kid, one of the things I loved the most was the window decorations. Only back then, people actually painted scenes on the windows. Nostalgia!

I love the painted windows. When I was in school, every class was responsible for painting the windows on a store, and there were prizes for the most creative, and so on. Of course, going downtown to see the lights and the windows was A Big Deal. I especially like some of the local touches, like the ship’s wheel on the IGA window.

I’ve always loved Snoopy! Thank you for a smattering of holiday cheer from Port A. Yes, it’s still early, though up here it feels a LOT like Christmas (and perhaps we’ll even have a white one this year!)

I’m sure there will be more over the coming week, John. I love the candy store, but a pet rattlesnake inside? That would certainly have me running for the hills regardless of whether it was dressed all festive or not – yikes. I think I’d leave it to Santa to bring me candy. ๐

I don’t care how good the chocolate is – if there’s a rattlesnake, no way would I go inside.
