There they are. The dreaded crates waiting for their next victims.
“Look, Lucy. The rents are going out without us.”
“There’s peanut butter in it for us.”
“I just happened to notice how big your crate is, and it has a soft bed.”
“Yeah. That’s cause I know where one does not go potty.”
“Gosh. That happened once when I was a puppy.”
“You better watch the Pinocchio effect there Little One. I’m checking on you.”
“I love this beddy.”
“It’s not a beddy its a pad.”
“Whatever you call it, it’s nice.”
“You need to get out of there now.”
“Hey, Little Potato. There is a jar of peanut butter with your name on it.”
“I’m calling for room service.”
“What good girls. Already in your crate.”
“Yes, Boss. We are waiting for the goods
“Well, here you are.” We’ll be back soon.”
“Take all the time you want, boss. I’ll be busy here for an hour.
“Me too, Dad.”
They are such good pups. This exchange was precious, John. ♥ Have a great weekend!

Our Lab used to make his own crate in our hall closet. He would nudge the door open, go in, and then close it. If he was nowhere to be found, I always knew to look there. So cute, these animals….

Most need a safe place. Thanks, Lori.

Indeed. Our Lab’s favorite spot at night is shoehorned in between my husband and me. Think that he feels as though we have his back…and front! 😁

He feels pretty safe there.

Yes. Separated from his mum too early as a pup, which left lasting ‘scars.’ He is never more content than when sandwiched tightly between us…

They are very obedient. But I have to admit, I hate those crates.

They love them. The crates are their safe place when we leave. They both get very anxious when they are left alone without them. With them, they know we will be back.

Oooh, poor doggies. I don’t like putting dogs in crates even only for a while.

These two have separation anxiety and we like to take them as much as we can. There does come a time where they have to be left and the crates are their comfort zone where they feel safe. Left alone in the house and they both become extremely anxious.

When Dixie Rose was young, her crate was where she’d go for “time out,” and one of my favorite photos shows her staring plantively through the bars. Eventually, we moved past that. There was a sheepskin in it, and in the winter, she’d put herself to bed in it, snuggled up just fine. Your pair look like they’re perfectly content in their little spots, too.

They are. They both have separation anxiety and when we leave the crates are a comfort. They know we will be back shortly to let them out. They go in willingly.

For peanut butter, I’d also go into a crate.

Aw, such good girls. We don’t crate ours, they just flop wherever they like when we’re gone. There is usually someone home, though.

Yeah, We larned the hard way that their anxiety goes through the roof when we are gone. They love their crates. 😊

You’re wise pet parents, John, for introducing crates in an enticing way. Dallas loves his crate, especially during thunderstorms. He doesn’t need it if I have to leave the house, preferring to snooze by the door, but pups with separation issues do best in crates. Peanut butter is just a plus!

Thank you, Debbie. They are the best thing. Lucy has always been anxious (having been abandoned). I think she taught Twiggy. Theu both love their crates. In this house we take them down after use. At the coast they were up full time. If we ever lost a dog we would go to th room with crates and there they would be sound asleep in the crate. 😀

Hm, I had never thought doggies would like to be in crates when we were gone. But then, ours were outside anyway: free to roam in Karnes City, and in a kennel here in Fritztown.

Most people don’t understand that crates are exactly what you said – a safe place for them. I never crated Zeke because at the time I couldn’t find a big enough one but, honestly, he never needed it. When I saw my cousin’s crates for her Irish Wolfhounds I saw they come in humongous sizes! OK, I didn’t look all that hard… 😉
Fun exchange between the girls!

Yes we had even a bigger one for Bailey. They do come in all sizes. Thanks, Dale.

My boxer used to love going in the crate when I would leave. And outside of one time when she got sick in there and I had to clean it out and when I had it standing up it conked me on the head, the scar of which is still there, there was nary an incident. 🙂

We have the smae experience less the konk and sick. These two need their crate if we can’t take them. Thanks, Marc.

I hope you had a great adventure out while the two sweeties were enjoying their treats. Before I raised our golden Henry from 8 weeks on, I thought crates were mean. Then I discovered how much Henry loved his crate, how great it was to train with it, and much safer for him while we were out. Now I’m a huge believer in them (as long, as you say, that they’re not overused).

When we had a dedicated room for the crates at the coast we would leave them up with the doors open. They loved to go in and nap.
