Friday JohnKu – AKA – TGIF

Lucy and Twiggy

“Think we out to hit it, Lucy?”
“Well, it is Friday after all.”

Another Friday. Once this day is done, then there is a three day weekend ahead for all you productive prisoners of organized commerce.  I certainly hope you all have a wonderful time and remember the rule of safe party behavior. The rule? No drinking and driving. There is another rule of thumb that should be followed when doing a weekend of celebration which is don’t yak in your own hat.

I’ve managed to keep the 1000 word a day regimen for this last week on my WIP. I was at 54,000 words last Friday and am over 61,000 words today. I am very thankful to keep moving. I was a little unsure how to get to the ending even though I had written the last three lines. I had a breakthrough yesterday courtesy of one of the characters.

Today’s JohnKu talks about the holiday weekend. I hope you have a fabulous time.

Takes forever to get here . . .

Then gone in a flash.

    1. Thanks, Suzanne. I have a path to the end. The end is about 30,000 words away. Have a lovely weekend.

  2. Those are good rules. It’s why I don’t bring hats to parties.

    1. LOL, Charles. Funniest line of the week. 😂

  3. Drinking and boating don’t mix, either. There are a lot of fishing guides and general boaters who are staying off the water this entire weekend; the phrase “amateur hour” is often heard. Enjoy the weekend!

    1. Same for beach-going during holidays. We never went to the beach or even downtown on amateur weekends like Labor Day. We would stock the fridge and bar ahead of time and then just lay low. Thanks, Linda

  4. I had always heard that you allow your characters to show you to the conclusion, but you wrote the last lines ahead of time. I’m curious how you managed to get there?

    1. The struggle is staying on a path to the ending. The characters tend to go off in strange directions sometimes. This current book took some detours and finally came back to the vector that will get me to my final three lines.

  5. That’s the worst thing about holidays. Somehow the powers-that-be found a way to trick time and make it go faster than non-holiday-days. ;-0 ME? I’m using the three day ‘break’ to write more chapters (fingers crossing) and start promoting my “Molly Finds Her Purr” book. Promotion – as you know – is the bane of authors, but how the heck else will anyone know? You do a great job, and inspire me. Anyway, I’m so glad I’m not a “productive prisoner of organized commerce.” My commerce is extremely disorganized! 🙂

    1. Hahaha. Good luck on the promotion, Pamela. Have a great weekend.

  6. “Productive prisoners of organized commerce.” LOL! Yep, that’s me! I took today off, so this prisoner has four days! Great JohnKu. Happy Friday!

  7. I love when writing breakthroughs happen, especially when they come courtesy of a character. Way to go!

We are closing out pool this weekend . Despite having to say goodbye to swimming, I am looking forward to the long stretch off (even though it will be gone in a flash).

    Happy Fri-YAY, John!

    1. Pools around here close in November so I think the swimming season is reversed from yours. Have a great Labor Day, Mae.

  8. Sounds like you’ve been slinging pixels at your story. After I finish visiting blogs today, I need to do some of that myself.

    1. Yup. Been tossing those pixels around for sure.

  9. I love those breakthroughs courtesy of our characters. They’re great! Your Johnku is so right – usually – we have Dorian and bad weather to worry about here in Florida, so the weekend will probably be too long for some of us. Why do hurricanes always choose inopportune moments to barge in? 😉 Happy Friday and weekend, John!

  11. John, you’re proof that setting a goal and working every day to attain it is the BEST way for something substantial to get done! Kudos on seeing that light at the end of the writing tunnel. Now, have a happy Labor Day weekend!

  16. Enjoy your Labor Day, John. Congratulations on the word count in your new WIP! I’m another writer who uses the last lines of a current WIP to help me focus on reaching that end game.

  18. Ah, “productive prisoners of organized commerce.” Well, for me it’s more like productive prisoner of disorganized government 😏 Looking forward to having Monday off as it is my least favorite workday. And we have another hurricane bearing down on us. After many years of little to no hurricane activity, we’re seeing a new trend that does not bode well for people living on the coasts. Just praying there’ll be no loss of life.
Have a good weekend, John. Kudos to you for maintaining your writing schedule. I need to get back to my novel before I forget what it was all about 😉

  19. Ah yes… the three-day week-end of which I never get to partake. Yesterday, Friday, (I’m a day late here, again…) was my weekend. I work today (Saturday) right through to Thursday.
So, my whinging is over and I bid you a fabulous long week-end!
