Thursday – A Little Personal – Lucy and Twiggy – Two Cents

Lucy and Twiggy

“So, what are you doing there, Little one?”

“I’m checking things out is all.”

“Oooo. I love checking things out. Talk to me.”

“Well, this new sod seems to be coming along.”

“I agree. It still needs some time before it’s mowed.”

“Yeah, I was going to mention it needs a haircut.”

“If you want to see a mess, follow me.”

“You talking about the side yard?”

“I sure am. Where did you go?”

“I see a weed over here. Just making a note of it.”

“You will need a whole book to make weed notes in this place.”

“When are the guys coming to tear out this St Augustine grass and lay the rest of the sod?”

“I heard mom on the phone with them. They said this weekend.”

“It’s been four weeks. What was the holdup?”

“This kind of sod is a little scarce. So it took some time to find a grower.”

“How do you know all this stuff?”

“I keep my ears open.”

“Well, I’m still going to mention a few things to dad.”

“You go right ahead, Little One. I’m sure he’ll appreciate your two cents worth.”

“Come on. My opinion is worth at least a buck.”

“We’ll see, Little one. We’ll see.”

Hope the job gets done soon. Is it usually hard to find that kind of sod?

It is a brand called Zorro Zoyza. It is heat tolerant, shade tolerant, and stands up well to traffic. (Four legged kind) It costs more, so most of the installations don’t use it. The demand is low and it takes longer to get establisjed and therefore those that grow sod only plant so much.

Lawns are an ongoing challenge, aren’t they? The new sod looks great…hope the replacement supplies for the other area arrive soon!

Supposed to be Saturday if it doesn’t rain. Rain chance 40% so we may be okay. Thanks, Lori.

“Oooo. I love checking things out. Talk to me.” LOL! I loved this line. 🙂 Happy Thursday, John. Good luck with the sod. Our yard is pretty much soaked from the heavy rains we’ve had the past several days.

There is also a mud hole that the dogs and bluejays love playing in. We have that area fenced off for obvious reasons. Thank you, Suzanne. 😁

Well, if rain is good for new sod, you’re in business! I’m a little miffed that the weekend’s supposed to be rainy — at least, more or less — but I suspect it will be an advantage for you. At least it will be if the crew’s willing to get that sod actually on the ground.

    Good morning, John!
Did you (try to) kill the St. Augustine in your side yard or does it have a fungus-blight like much of ours?

    Liked by 2 people

    1. John W. Howell's avatar

The landscape crew used their sod lifing machine and then discovered they couln’t get the sod. Rather than lift the sod and leaave a mud hole I told them to leave it down until the new sod comes in. So the hayfield is on purpose.

That “hayfield” sure looks like the spots we have in (some of) our St. Augustin where a fungus is killing it.
