Views of the Neighborhood – National Night Out with the Lakeway Police

Last week was National Night Out, and here in Lakeway, the Police Department sponsored a visit to their headquarters. We can step back in time and visit this event.  The Police Department has opened its facility to give the public an idea of its services. We are going just before everyone arrives to see what they have prepared. We are catered by Olmalie in Austin. Our entertainment is (who Else) The Police.

So let’s get on the bus.

Here we are at  Lakeway Police Headquarters.

A cornhole game is set up.

Mounted Police Officer.

A large screen with rotating photos of the department.

It is an excellent area to have a bite to eat.

Speaking of a place to eat. How about some pizza?

Cookies for dessert and soft drinks.

A K9 officer and his happy pup.

Sometimes, a SWAT team is needed.

The court is represented.

The Department’s Victim Services.

Lakeway activities.

Crime Scene Investigators.

The Telecommunications Group has giveaways.

Goodie Bag.

Name the fish contest.

I liked this sign. If you see something online, there is a safe place to meet your buyer.

That is our tour. I thank the Lakeway Police Department for hosting this National Night Out event. Now it’s time for some food and music. I hope you have a super week.

My FIL was a Detroit Police Officer. Long gone before anything such as this, would have been a reality!

For some reason, this reminds me of Operation Flagship. Fun police operation story involving the Redskins and Bengals.

I love these kind of events. The community we lived in outside of Vancouver, BC, held similar events. They help build community relations. Perfect song selection.

nice to see that interface; policing by consent is the only way it ever works properly in a democracy. Currently the Metropolitan police in London are about as far away from this as ever. One day perhaps.

It looks like a great event, John. I can also see it being a goldmine learning opportunity for a writer. I positively LOVE the idea of a “meetup post.” What a great idea, especially given its placement.

Using The Police for the music vid was perfect. Finally, I have to ask….did you ever learn the winning name for the fish?

I did not earn the name of the fish. The next time an officer stops me I’ll ask. Thanks, Mae,

Events like this are definitely good pr for the police. Locally event like this are usually in a park. I think it is especially important for children and teenagers to connect this way. The police are not the bad guys. Thanks for taking us along and feeding us. Perfect band.

I was out yesterday, John but when I saw what the activity was, I decided to stop in. I figure the food is long gone, but if there are any Hushpuppies, leftover, maybe they could toss a couple in the microwave – if the dog doesn’t mind.

Good looking department. That’s as close to the Municipal Court as I ever hope to come. The Meetup Spot is a great idea. I think our town supports this as well.

I hope your week is off to a good start.
