Thursday – A Little Personal – Twiggy and Tempeste Expect a Visitor

“So Twiggy, what makes you think someone’s coming?”

“I heard Mom mention a delivery.”

“FedEx or what?”

“Hmm. I think she said UPS. Maybe I’ll ask her.”

“If you ask, she’ll be on to us. We might be put in the no barking place.”

“Good thinking. I would hate to miss the opportunity.”

“I know. You taught me that barking UPS to St Louis is one of life’s pleasures.”

“The greatest is when UPS, FedEx, and Amazon all show up.”

I don’t think I have ever seen that.”

“No, but trust me. It will happen.”

“Are you sure you heard Mom correctly?”

“Well, yeah. I was standing by the sink, and she was looking at her phone.”

“Looking at her phone? You said she mentioned a delivery.”

“When she looks at her phone, it is usually a delivery on the way.”

“So you never heard her say ‘delivery.'”

“Give me strength. It doesn’t matter if she said it or not. A phone look is a delivery.”

“What about a text or something else?”

“Do you want to bark? Yes or no? If you do, you have to have faith.”

“Okay, I have faith.”

“Good. Stand by for a good bark, then.”

  1. Out of curiosity, do they ever bark just for the pleasure of it? I have a neighbor whose dog occasionally seems to do that. It’s as though she’s just testing the vocal cords, in case she needs to use them.

  2. Glad to see the dynamic duo remains on duty. Our crew alert us to the pool guy’s arrival each week…then follow him from slider to slider, wiggling madly, throughout his visit. ☺️

  3. When my kids were young, our dog escaped, ran out of the yard, and tackled a UPS truck. He wasn’t the winner, and I had four kids to comfort. I think of this pup every time a UPS truck pulls up at our home. What is with dogs and delivery trucks?? Clever post, John – both a delight and a warning. 🌞

  4. I had a dog who only barked at threats and a dog who barked at everything. Now I have a lunatic who doesn’t bark at threats but barks randomly at nothing, like he’s testing my heart strength. At least your girls have a barking routine. lol

Sending them ear scratches. I hope they enjoy their barks!

I really love how they sit so upright and close, like waggy cadets. And how they conspire so they can have fun with the delivery guy. Hey, when you’re a dog one needs to seize every opportunity after all. And these two have a sense of humor to boot. Wonder where they, or who, get that from. 🙂

  5. With Christmas on its way, I suspect the girls’ barkers will get plenty of exercise! At least you know they’re barking at something real. Sometimes, Monk takes several laps around the back yard, barking just to hear himself talk!!

  6. Oh yes, delivery vans and the postal worker on a scooter get big barks. So does any one walking by, or on a bicycle, or dragging a suitcase and heaven forbid if someone walks by with a dog! I really need to create a no barking place.

  7. Twiggy is the expert.

Cats don’t bark, but mine rather enjoy deliveries. Velma had a huge crush on the UPS man (before Amazon started delivering everything — such as it is). She was disappointed today. UPS came to the door, but it was a woman, not her hero. Hugs.
